Just installed Tanabe rear sway-bar.

one is for body roll, the other for chassis flex. They are totally different parameters. Your goal is to have as much of the tires movement done by the suspension as possible because the suspension is designed to control the location of the tire to enahnce grip. If you lose that control you lose that grip.

Sway bar connects supsension side to side for the purpose of eliminating body roll. It means that to compress one side of the suspension the other side must compress with it as much as the strength of the sway bar provides that connection between them.

One connects the chassis from side to side and one connects the suspension from side to side.

I understand well the rear bar alone seems to be a good mod for suspension to suspension linkage and the tanabe brace seems to be a good mod for chassis to chassis. Do you think this will be a bad combination?

No not at all. Our cars have weak chassis so anything that can be done with reasonable weight penalty is good. Whether or not the tanabe bar is really worth its weight or not I dont know without knowing back to back test data on its effect as well knowing its weight but in general the concept is good.

On my own car I found rear sway bar was probably the single greatest positive effect suspension mod. I would even tell people to do it before coilovers honestly. I bet I could do a lot of damage on the mountain with a stock suspended eclipse with some nice tires and a big nasty rear bar, I went to 27mm on my car so 18 seems a little weak to me unless its made out of something much stronger.

This is a size comparison between stock and my bar:

I still need to reinforce the subframe as well because the bar is so big. I like the trashed lawn and cigarette butts in the background, my buddies house, not mine ;) If anyone is intersted I can share the guys contact info.

Well I'm going from no bar to 17 so ROFL. Yeah I think i'm gonna stick with what I ordered. If you want to know about the tanabe bar there is a write up about it on here just do a search. Easy to install and the person seemed happy with the result.

Just curious, where did you get the 27mm bar? Is it custom made?

Yes, custom bar.

Also, I had a set of ebay strut tower braces before. They didn't work at all. They were nowhere near strong enough. I could hit it hard with the palm of my hand and the thing deflected like 1/4", try that on the RRE bar and you get a bruised hand.

Also anything bigger than a 25mm rear bar requires some other custom fab, one because the bushings cannot be fit in the stock brackets you have to get larger brackets and second because somewhere around that size the strength of your subframe becomes an issue according to RRE and I trust them.

I'm gonna stick with the RM bar as I don't do any kind of autoX or road racing I just drive my car spiritly and I"m a 1320 guy so I figured my combo would be good for balance without getting to crazy.
