Just got my vacuum gauge in and its reading 19 in. Hg. I heard that somewhere between 16 and 18 is good, so is my reading too high and if so what does that mean. I know that a low reading means a boost leak. Keep in mind it was a cold startup.
 
The vacuum # you see at idle is very much depandant on camshaft timing/ignition and engine condition, in that order. To have 19hg. of vacuum is good. It shows a clean running engine that should idle smooth. If different camshafts are used, this vacuum # at idle can be much lower and effect brakes and sutch. That's not a bad reading. Also, with the higher idle (Rpm's) during a cold startup, the vacuum levels will be higher anyways. As the car warms and the rpms drop, the vacuum reading will also drop.
