When i turn the key, i hear the starter push out but it makes a sound like the gear teeth on the starter are SOMEWHO not matched up to the teeth on the flywheel. It sounds like the starter is spinning but the motor does not turn over, which is why i dont think that they teeth are matched up, but i dont know how that could be. I am going to take the starter off again today clean it get it checked out and put it back on and i hoping it will start, does anyone have any other ideas on what could be causing this? Oh i just got done putting in a new transmission if that helps.

Did you take off the plugs? Any chance you might have the sequence off if you did?
THe motor is not turning over, the plugs would have nothing to do with that. I would pull the starter and have it checked, if you can hear ir spinning the its most likeley hooked up right. Is it possablde that you didnt get the bolts all the way tight? Good luck

Oh yeah they are tight. I am going to take it off and have auto zone see if its still good just for giggles. I hope it turns out to be something that simple as it being too tight or not tight enough

I figured there was no harm in asking. It's something dumb I've done before. :(

The teeth on the starter are designed to slide n the teeth of the flywheel. was the starter sitting flush when it was tighted? if not and you over tighned you could have bent or broke something.

I didint know az checked starters, sounds like maybe the motor is engaging but not the drive.

well the one near my pad does. I hope i did not break anything. i dont believe i did it too tight, which everyone has different ideas of what tight is. I will just have to check it out.
When you said it sounds like the motor is engaging, do you mean the starter? and what are you talking about when you said the drive?

whe the started gets power the sylnoid activates the motor for the starter. which engaes a shaft that has the starter gear on it. so the motor turns the shaft, and inturn moves the flywheel.

now something inside the starter could be broke, and what you hear is the the stater motor turning

pull the starter and you can acully test it your self. ad power and ground and see if the gear spins. if not then its bad tie to buy a new one.
