I believe everything is stock besides a cold air intake. The spark plugs and wires are bad, so we know that, and there is some corrosion on the 2nd to the left base that the spark plug plugs into. There is a small crack in that little casing that could be affecting it. Well the problem is, I drove it 200 miles today and it was probably about 85-90 degrees (this is an automatic transmission btw) and everytime I came to a stop light I would either have to switch it into neutral and keep it revved or press both the brake and the gas pedal to keep it running, otherwise it would just die when I would get to slower speeds/rpms. While I was on the highway the check engine light came on, it was off earlier though... so I am not sure...

So questions...

1.) Why does is do this, I am going to get new spark plugs and wires, and new oil pan gasket. (possibly new battery to, could a bad battery affect the stalling also?)
2.) The turbo only maxes PSi at 12 or 13... is that normal?
3.) The fuel gauger registers 3/4 of a tank when its full... I need to do some more testing, but I think it is a quarter of a tank behind... so like when I first hit empty I believe I have another quarter tank left... is there an easy fix to this? (I filled the tank up with 14.7 gallons and was getting up 25 mpg because of the stalling at stop lights, we got about 170 miles and the guage was lower than a quarter tank but I could only put in 7.xx gallons... so it was really a half tank.
4.) Do I have to use premium unleaded fuel (I have been so far).

Misc:
This car is a 1995 Eagle Talon TSi AWD.
It has 150,xxx miles on it.
Aftermarket fog lights and aftermarket cold air intake.

Other than that, when it doesn't stall, it seems to run great...

Thank you for reading this and hopefully you can help me out,
Neil R.

1. Does it do this only with the a/c on ?

2. Yes thats normal for a stock 2g

3. Does the car have white faced gauges ?

4. no you dont "have" to, esp on a stock car used as a daily driver.
If your going to use cheep gas, do be out racing it.

1.) I highly doubt and am willing to bet a battery would not cause your stalling problem.
2.) 12-13psi is normal for stock and with your t-25 that is pretty efficient.
3.) This is a fairly common problem, I would recommend searchign on here as I do not know the exact answer my guess would be they might have put in a new fuel pump and not rewired it, or do you have whiteface gauges?
4.) A higher octane gas will only retard the timing a bit more and cause less knock, which is good, but no needed at the minimal levels of knock your engine could possibly be seeing. It would not be detrimental to run premium, but it isn't adding much either. :thumb:

With the intake on the car did they recirculate the BOV? If then this could possibly be the problem. When I bought my first GST the BOV wasn' recirculated and that would cause the car to die when you pushed in the clutch because it would run richer. This is just something to check, but it might not be just depends if the dump tube was put back on.

It idles lower with the a/c on but it still dies with it off.

yes id say that your staling problem is that when they installed the cold air intake they took the reciculation pipe off of the BOV. So what is happening is that the ecu has already accounted for the added air from the BOV so when you are not on the throttle there is not enough air in the cylinder and the fuel is not igniting like it should. once you put that all back together ill bet you will not be staling any more.

and the gas guage being off well are the guages stock or after market, if they are not stock take them off and go back with stock.

12-13 lbs is actually really good boost out of a stock 2g i think its more normally at about 10-11 lbs.

and the premium gas, well you dont have to but if you do you will be prolonging the life of your turbo and your valves and all. the better the octane the cleaner it burns and less deposits on valves and turbo and all that good stuff.

I like the recirculation pipe idea, Im such a noob, what is a BOV? :S. Also, it was idling hard in beginning and stalling, and then it was idling at about 200-400 rpms and not stalling, and when i got home it died again, so it is more of a random occrurence?

The octane rating of a fuel has nothing to do with it's quality or cleanliness. The measure of a fuel's ability to resist detonation is it's octane rating.

I am going to try the recirculation of the BOV idea. Could I get some help on how to do this please?

Thanks,
Neil

Instead of the BOV venting to atmosphere, you want it to vent into the intake pipe, via plumbing, between the MAF and the turbo.

You'll need to run a hose to the intake pipe from the BOV. I'd guess you don't have a hole for it on your cold air intake though, so you'd have to either get a new intake pipe or weld a port on to your existing pipe for the hose to connect to the BOV (dump tube).

We checked the plugs... running lean... so it has too much air??

i just recently got my talon so im new to this, but on my off-road toy it was doing the stalling thing and it was a bad EGR valve. also my brother said the BOV may need to be recirculated, like i said ive only had my talon for 3 weeks so that could all be false.
