Hey guys! As you can see I'm excited...so excited, I almost jumped the gun and bought an eBay turbo kit with no intel at all. :p I got my baby a week ago today from Craigslist for $900 bucks.

I have checked out the other sites for our cars and by far, this site was the most informative, and the friendliest. So, I joined!.

So far, the only mistake I think I have made is buying the wrong 4 pack of NGK plugs.

Anything else that I bought of eBay was cosmetic or for maintenance (wiper blades, tow hooks,carbon fib pedals, hatch struts).

Just looking at my car and not knowing the in and outs yet(things only you guys have run into from typical ownership), I need tires and an ac charge.
Whoever had it before cut the front springs and it rubs the fenders now. Need a radio and speakers, but that is a whole other topic.

My passenger window only moves a half of an inch but it closes thank god(live near Seattle).
My intake needs to be tighten at the back because the cone has been rubbing against the radiator support?
The horn does not work, you can hear the clicking from the fuse box under the hood.
My driver's side plastic seat slider that moves the chair back and forth is missing. But I can still move it.
My rear view mirror is super cracked in 3+ places but the map lights work.
There is no front licence plate bracket.
My battery is old. It says 2008 on it. I have to jump the car for it to start. But It ran no problems when I test drove it. The engine light came on for 2 mins and then went off with I kinda small jerk motion? had Auto zone check it out. They found no warnings. I turned it off and on and it started so I bought it.

That's about it. I want this to be my winter project. I'm so ready to listen to you vets.

I tried. The first notice i got was that I was a probationary member. Then i tried again with one photo and it keeps failing to load in the Go Advanced tab.

Seems to be a good value for $900. Remember that with these N/T DSMs you won't be going fast unless you spend a tremendous amount of money... or become artificially aspirated.

So far...here are the parts that I bought for it. I am still doing my research on the turbo kits, cat back exhaust, wires and plugs, and a hid head light set. I'm also looking for another wheel. Loko Racing? That's the current wheel set now but the rear driver side wheel is gone.

My suspension is another story. My front wheels are rubbing on the fender when I turn. The car is drive-able but its cutting up the very edge of the tire. Been looking at some batteries. I like the Optima for the color and what I may be doing with the turbo and radio in the future. Think its a red top If I'm not mistaken. Think I'm gonna paint the mirrors white to match the car too.

I have a friend who put it on the lift for me. one of my cv boots is ripped. Gonna price an axle out. And he also noticed that my engine was slanted??? Motor mount under anti res container was shredded. Looking at oem's at RockAuto. Do I need to change them all at the same time? Is there a diff between auto and stick mounts?

He also had to pump up my clutch to get it in gear. He opened up a small reservoir near the top right rear of the engine compartment and said it was empty.

This is the wheel that I was talking about. Gonna shoot the calipers blue until I find out what kind of set up I will need after I turbo my baby out.

Man... youu have some cleaning work ahead of you for this engine. But the body is in great condition.

What are your future plans for it besides a turbo kit? By the way... Hans racecraft kit is by far teh best I've seen for the N/T's
 
Well....the turbo is what I was shooting for. My immediate needs are a battery, motor mounts, one of the axle boots is ripped, I may need a master and slave clutch cylinder, ball joints, and some kind of suspension hook up. I heard that the Koni's are the best?
 
ok just to start off welcome to the DSM world. (dsm= Destroyed Some Marriages) LOL thats what i called it since i know ppl who literally put so much money and time into these cars they lose focus on other things so hope you have the time and dedication. Being that you have a naturally aspirated engine you would have to build up your motor internally along with a whole list of other things, ECU, fuel system, pulleys, rods,pistons,build the head so you can run proper boost without destroying your car and frying or bending every rod or valve in it. Not to discourage you they are fun projects I own a n/t myself and have spent about 3k just on the engine alone to prep it for a turbo kit. (finding a good turbo kit itself is another thing) Since you dont know what work has been done to it i would focus on maintenance before you even touch performance. If you have any questions there are plenty of 420a turbo lists and step by steps to follow or inbox me if you have any questions.Anything you probably will experience with this car im sure ive been through since i have owned mine for 3 yrs now. That being said...welcome to the forums!
 
Thanks Alot 95! What motor mounts do you think I should use for right now? I have been looking at Rock Auto but they don't have a diagram for the placement.

Is there a diff between the pass and driver axles?

if you can get poly mounts then get them if not just get stock mounts they work just as fine. I would also spend the 20$ on a haynes manual they answer alot of questions, part numbers, trouble shooting issues, etc they are very helpful and should be included in every dsm LOL
 
Cool. So..on the poly note, I have been reading up on here and a lot of people don't like the vibration at idle. I'm not going to the track, and I want this to be my daily driver. Is the vibration that significant?

some mounts do cause vibration or brake off easier so its really up to you. they are cost effective and light weight though:thumb: do some research on the mount before you pick one out tho.
 
looks like an awesome deal for what you paid for it! clean it up and don't forget to follow the upgrade path! welcome to the family!
 
verbalcat - i also just bought a dsm and am living in the tricities area (west richland, the fourth tri-city haha). i bought a 1st gen gsx, but i really like the body style of the 2nd gens.!

V LOCO wheels!! Haha, my first DSM had a set of those on. Dang things, I couldn't find any information about them on the net.

Congrats on the rust-free strut towers! You should make a build thread (unless you can this this thread as one).

..My DSM outer theme will be blue and white....engine compartment..red and blue ... ..interior will stay grey...System to come.
