hey guys i recently purchased an JMF race smim... and its a great product :thumb:

thanks JNZ for hooking me up..

but here is my question. is it beneficial to wrap the runners in heat wrap, like you would do to the exhaust manifold..??? will it help to keep the air moving through the runners cold??

i'v seem people use the gold foil on intake manifolds before, but i just cant justify that price, when i could be spend that money on other supporting mods..

i couldn't find this answer anywhere. so if there is a thread point me in the right direction please..

Thanks Drew

NO. If you want to try and keep the manifold cooler you can try a intake heat barrier gasket like magnus sells but it really doesnt matter. You can also bypass the coolant lines going to the throttle body that will keep it a little cooler as well.

The heat barrier gasket will help, but you will still have a lot of heat transfer from the head due to the actual bolts transfering heat. Bypass the FIAV if you want to really help lower temps.

you don't need to wrap it. install some water injection it will keep everything cool ;)

Not to hi-jack the thread, I do have a question about a suggestion to the OP.

If you have a 1990 TB and can't block off your FIAV. And you unhook and block off your coolant lines to the TB. What would be the result of this? Would it work fine or what?

thanks for the info.. i already own the magnus barrier gasket. i was just looking for some other ways to reduce temp, in the engine bay

There are alternatives to gold foil, and reducing underhood temps is a very worthwhile investment :thumb: I have a special gold foil on my IC pipes, fuel rail, magnus heat barrier, heat wrap on all exhaust components, reflective wrapped coolant pipes, insulated WG lines, etc etc. Everything cost about 200USD IIRC, and I'd say being able to open my hood without having my eyebrows melt was worth it alone.

There are tons of cheaper reflective wraps available, just make sure you get some extra to account for mistakes and odd shapes that will pop up.
