JDM eclipse taillights??????

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

well since no one can say anything i dont know what to think.

I was under the impression that there was no such thing as jdm tail lights for eclipses esp 2g's because their not made in japan and do not exist in japan.

so with that said what kinda tail lights are these?

JDM eclipse anything is impossible... they were never in japan. Only a rare few lucky owners had some imported.. like maybe 100 of them..but there is no such thing as JDM factory parts.

JDM Eclipses? The Truth.
I have seen post here just about monthly about JDM Eclipses and the arguments about it never ends. I am going to explain and hopefully end this argument. First of all we have to talk about the Acronym JDM. I stand for Japanese Direct Market. This refers to part made and available in Japan.
Background: I was stationed outside of Tokyo for 6 ½ years. I was into the car scene an almost all of my friends were Japanese. The majority of them worked at a tuning shop called Kiragaya Sports Car Division ( Now closed). In ‘99 I saw a 1G Eclipse GSX in a parking lot and just didn’t have a camera so no pic.

Eclipses – Yes, they were sold in Japan. I was told this information by the Tuning Shop owner. The Eclipse is an American designed car. This car has the diamond star on it but it was designed by Mitsubishi America. The 1G was imported and available from the dealer but did not sell well, hence it was dropped. The years it was available are unknown. When the 2G came out the Eclipse had a re-birth in Japan. But this too was a short lived run. The 2G was the 95-96 body style. The options were very limited:
GST Spyder in two color choices. Red and Black. These cars were imported but available from the Mitsubishi Dealer.
The differences with the American models were very slight. I will list them below:
Due to very narrow roads most all cars have foldable side mirrors. The Eclipses were motorized. This allows the driver to push a button and the side mirrors fold up against the side of the car. Due to Japanese Law all cars need to have turn signals on the front side fenders. The Eclipse had oval shaped ones there. The taillights had amber corners on them. These are the exact ones you will see at http://www.machv.com/exterior.html
These are also the same ones that are Euro spec. Where they are made I have no clue so I can not tell you they are JDM. Many Japanese didn’t like the amber corners so they sprayed the entire lens red to get that USA look.
The car was a US Left hand Drive. So that tells me that it was made in the US.

So here is the deal. The Eclipse is and was not JDM as far as manufacturing but it was available from the dealer. There are many hard top Eclipses in Japan now. They are so called J-spec but I have no knowledge of when they were available and how. I do know that many Military personnel brought their state side Eclipses to Japan and sold them.
I will post pics of my friends Black GST Spyder when I get home.

What do you mean? Which one?

Those rims on the 1G are his aftermarket choice. I have no idea what the stockers looked like.

Warning on the JN sites. Be prepared to see F&F customizing. That is big in Japan.

I thought it was Japanese DOMESTIC Market. Not direct.

"Right...all Eclipses are built and made in U.S. but Eclipse export to Japan and Korea is a little diffrent than ones that are here in U.S. (I'm a Korean by the way)
For example, we have RS, GS, GS-T, GSX here but in Japan we only have GS, GSR-4.
GS is a U.S. version of GS-T and GSR-4 is U.S. version of GSX. Just like we call 3000GT VR-4 here, in japan it is Eclipse GSR-4 not GSX.
And so the Spec is also diffrents due to the restriction difference...(diffrent intake & exhaust manifolds, throttle body, etc)
The GSR-4 has stock 240HP, 225TORQUE stock instead of GSX's 210HP, 215TORQUE stock.
Much simular to Lancer Evolutions' engine in Japan.
Basicly it is the same engine as U.S. GSX but diffrent tuned with diffrent parts under diffrent restriction.
Thanks. (You thought GSR was only for Integras? very funny...LOLz)"

So that's why on Grand Turismo 1 the only option for eclipses is 95-6 style in red or black i guess.

gul wings also came in japan. 2gs were sold in limited amounts as special orders. tey would only carry like 1 at the dealer to show what the car was and then you had to order them

to my knowledge all dsm's sold into japan were turbo models. all dsm's sold in europe were the n/t 4g63. i dont feel sorry for them tho, they got the evo

F&F? I don't think so. The shit here in Japan isn't just for looks. Almost without exception equal attention is paid to speed and handling -- those cars are fast. Also, far more care is put into external styling and the quality shows...there is a culture difference thanks to the laws governing vehicles (makes them very expensive to maintain) and most Japanese have extreme pride in their cars' overall shape. What you see as "rice" in the US is scarce in Japan. What's ironic is a lot of American GIs do rice out their cars here though. Leads me to believe it's a primarily US phenomenon.

We (the USA) tend to go overboard with anything we do, not always to our benefit.

the japanese are innovators. They fabricate stuff and then us (americans) copy it.
