im thinking of buying a JDM a/t from my friend. whats the difference between a jdm a/t tranny compared to the U.S one?

i asked him and said the first gear is better and it has a final gear?

can someone explain this for me alot better and also what after market torque converter should i get for my daily driver?

thanks,

I can't comment on the different gearing for the AT, but....You can't change the gearing unless the TCU allows it, so the real question is, if a JDM TCU is compatable with the US AT trans, if so, then there isn't any gearing differences.
As far as torque converters so, it's so hard to say, that's like saying guess my horsepower, when there are so manny other factors that come into play.
Edit: after looking at your mods, I would say wait for the turbo to get a new torque converter, and since you say your up for one, who knows what exactly you'll get, and that is the biggest factor in selecting a stall speed...where your peak torque is at.
For instance, look at my mods...when I dynoed (granted I had a few leaks and a failing transmission) my torque curve started to flatten out at 3800-4000 and I was still running a little rich, so I went with a 4000 restalled converter.
Good Luck.

thanks man. im going w/ evo 3 turbo and a evo 8 front mount. just matter of acouple weeks until i get it.( pay checks). but hopefully im going to get the converter soon along w/ the turbo set up first. so are u saying that i should get my car dynoed first to see what kind of converter i should get? can u also tell me what does stalling mean? im new to the whole A/t stuff.

oh yea, i dont know if it matters, but the JDM trans im getting comes w/ the stock converter.
thanks,

Anyone know if you can add a lockup torque convertor to a jdm tranny? And if so how do you do it?

the JDM tran comes with 1g style torque converter with out lock-up. the bell housing is smaller in diameter and as such the 2g converter wont fit in the housing.

at least this is what i have read. someone correct me if i am wrong
