Ok I have a question in regards to a 96 Eclipse GSX:

ok maybe more than one........

1. Driving along and the RPMs shoot up as if it was in nuetral let off gas goes down then shifts into gear give it gas drives fine

2. Does not shift right away RPM's climb car is still driving but car wont shift

3. Car has a hard shift at times

4. This all started yesterday and I replaced the filter and and Fluids (B&M Pro Shift A/T) last night

5. Normal small metal shavings on magnets and in the pan, no big junks of metal

Ok now the questions: 1.Did I catch this in time? The car seems to run fine but you can never be to sure. 2.Since this has happend is it worth the hasel of doing end clutches and shift kit?

Sounds like you have some slipping clutches.
Now of course this is a right off the top simple answer, but these are all symptoms of slipping clutches.
How many miles are on the tranny?

my best guess is the transmittion fluid was not properly filled. it's either too low or leaking that causes the torque converter turbine not able to properly deliver the power to the stator output shaft. check the fluid level again and check for leakage, and double make sure the filter is installed correctly also.

Fluid is full

Yes the filter is correctly installed as far as the old one I am not sure I didnt even bother checking it. It was 105 that day and I dint feel like messing with it anymore than I needed to.

122K AFAIK on the miles

It is running fine now that i did the ATF Kit

So does it sound as if it would be ok to do the shift kit and end clutches?

if the fluid was real gritty you take a big chance in changing it because that grit is what actually helps the clutches grab as they wear out. so if it happned after you changed the fluids thats most likely the reason.

No. Changing fluid has helped several cars last a little longer at our shop. If anything snags in the tranny, like grit, it's going to cause it to lock up. This will end up breaking more parts.
