Hey guys. I have a 90 eclipse that burns A LOT of oil. I bought the car from my brother in law for real cheap after I crashed my 98 mustang GT. I did a compression test and had 110-150-150-90. I then did a wet test and found out that those two cylinders that are down on compression have bad rings so it wont be an easier valve stem seal fix. There is a place not far from me that sells JDM 4G63s for about $1200 which is a pretty good deal. I can attempt to replace the piston rings myself, but it would probably take me long than I want and the cost I am uncertain about. There arent any mechanics in my area either that are willing to rebuild this motor.. unless someone on here know's of one. So what is your opinion? The car has 185K miles on it and it might be a good idea to get a motor with less than 50K miles in there... but I cant find a lot of info on the JDM engines...

Yeah, JDM motors are a quick, easy fix. But then that one may just blow up on you too.

If you can rebuild it, go for it. could end up being much cheaper. I like rebuilds because you KNOW that its going to be fresh, and YOU know the motor and all of its conditions and quirks.
