I've never tuned my 1g

My engine is considerably modded. Got a high compression head with forged inverted dome top pistons, 264/272 hks cams, rechipped ecu, dsmlink, opened exhaust 2.5", 16G turbo, SMIC, 750cc injectors, 2g ported manifold, PR O2 housing (on the way)....

My car has never been tuned in 1500 miles since it was built. Will there "definitely" be noticeable differences after it's been tuned with dsmlink and fine-tuned at the dyno? Lots of guys say it'll be night and day and other guys say it will just be a smoother ride...no big deal. So is it really worth all the tuning-hype?

LOL, who ever said tuning is not needed should be slapped. Every car needs tuned or you can destroy your motor. It is like night and day.

If you are running those injectors without a tune you should be running real rich, unless you have used dsmlink to compensate or the chip.

If I was you I would not boost at all untill you get a logger and a wbo2. You also should get a larger fuel pump and a FMIC. Also what are the specs of the eprom chip?

Everything Jay said plus 1.... Night and Day indeed, get it tuned!

Before getting tuned, I would look over a few things just to make sure the car is in top running condition before strapping down. You can find a general check list here: Full Function: Pre Dyno Checklist

I'd also be specific with your tuner in regards to the "chip" you have and the DSMLink. When you ordered the DSMLink, they ask you to specify your injector size, but the chip you have could possibly be fighting that, so you should get that sorted out first.

Getting a front mount and fuel pump like Glenn suggested would be ideal, but I'm sure you can make some extra power with what you currently have if you are low on budget.

He should still get a FP, he can get a 190 for under $100 and that will make sure he dont run out of fuel.

I wouldnt be suprised if your car isnt knocking like crazy as it. How much boost are you running? High compression plus hot air and incorrect amounts of fuel will equal one giant party of pain and suffering that occurs everytime your spark plug fires.

Get at least a 190 pump and a front mount and take to it a local shop and have them tune it.

I am only running stock boost to be safe...I do have dsmlink and my ecu was rechipped for full tunability. The 750s are compensated by dsmlink but that's it.

Ok so normal driving should be ok as long as the chipped ecu is not fighting you. If you get at least a fuel pump you will beable to get a lot more power out of the motor. Get it tuned ASAP

As an FYI.. if you have DSMLink the chip inside your ECU is part of the DSMLink package. (e.g. replaces the Stock EPROM). The DSMLink application just "reflashes" the Chip when you make adjustments via the PC/Palm App.

Are you on the DSMLink forums? There is a wealth of knowledge there along with a helpful tuning guide (supplements the manual) and DSMLink-specific tuners. Not to dissuade you from posting questions here (I'm a DSMLink user), just letting you know of other resources specific to that tuning tool.

As for tuning, this is what separates a fast car from a slow car with potential. I highly recommend you first thoroughly read the DSMLink manual/tuning guide so can fully understand what the Application does/can do before starting to tune. Then make a datalog of your current state of tune and slowly tweek things as you go :dsm:

Do I have to use my laptop...I've heard many guys talking about a pda. Are pda's workable with dsmlink? I can't see a connection considering dsmlink is a pretty large program. I had to get a db9 serial port adapter for 50 bucks...just trying to simplify. Thanks!

Holy crap $50? That should have only cost $8 or so.

Yes you can use DSMlink on a PDA. Go to the DSMlink forums - there is a specific forum for PDA use.
