is this tranny worth buying?

by buddy is going to sell me his 1g fwd turbo trans for $400 w/ the oem clutch and machined flywheel.

the trans is fine, but when u are racing it, it grinds into second. he said all i need is the 2nd gear synchro. but whats ur guys output on this? should i get it?

If you can't rebuild transmissions, you'll be stuck trying to find a company or person to do it for you . the machined flywheel and stuff is fine. but if your car is a 6bolt and his is a 7bolt you'll probably just buying ebay bait.

400$ is a decent price for a core trans and flywheel.

WHAT I'm doing is looking for an AWD transmission to buy super cheap that's broke that I can send in as a core to have refurbed by an expert. this way I can still drive my 92 talon awd tsi turbo while waiting for the trans to get rebuilt. then swap em out and send my "functional but slightly grindy" trans to whoever needs it for the same (cheap!)

yea, i might consider his trans then. this trans is going into my 89 colt. how hard is it to put a 2nd gear synchro in? all he keeps telling me is that when ur driving normal, the car shifts fine. its really when u are slamming gears racing is when the second gear grinds. also, where can i get synchros at? i been looking all over.
