Is this rim repairable?

I have a very nice set of enkei 17" rims but one of them is trashed. Does anybody know if this is repairable? I looked at a DOT pub and the way I read it, it looked like this was fixable but I could've just been reading it wrong. Any input would be appreciated as these are some nice lightweight rims but discontinued a while ago and I have been unable to find another one. Thanks.

I wouldn't imagine that being repairable. And if it was, it would probably be more to fix than to just try to buy a single wheel...or a cheap set of new ones even.

Nope. It lost all of its strength and support, even if you could possibly, somehow fix it, the rim would be too weak.

I wouldn't trust that at all!

Just get a new rim and call it a day.

Well if you have the missing piece it could be welded back together. But good luck ever getting that thing to balance. Find another wheel or another set of rims is your best bet.

Everybody seems to say no, which sucks. I pretty much can't find another one, been discontinued for years and the Enkei rep I talked to said most of these rims went to Texas. I did run across a company in Europe who has done some impressive work. Gives me hope, I'll just have to keep looking at rim repair companies all over the country. Not to be argumentative or offend but is anyone who is commenting familiar with wheel repair or are these just guesses. If I can't fix this rim I will just have to scrap the other three. Suck.

I did call a local company around Cincinnati Ohio. I'm pretty it was called The Wheel Doctor. I had a wheel bent, and 2 wheels had extremely minor pitting, and 2 were in the middle of lightly and heavily pitted (you could see the pitting, but couldn't hardly feel it yet if you ran your hand over it). The guy (not going to say I got a good deal or not) quoted me close to 200 bucks to repair a wheel, fix the pitting and re-clearcoat 4 wheels. The wheel i bent was only bent in a little 2-3inch spot on the wheel, and wasn't crumpled. Wish i had a picture of it.

I based me previous response based on that experience.

EDIT: Just went on their site and they "claim" to have a before and after picture on the homepage of a wheel looking pretty messed up, similar to yours. One could argue it was even worse. Obviously they don't have the price listed beside that one. If you can't find the site on google PM me and I'll give it to you. Don't want to post a link and turn it into a possible argument on the quality/price

Thanks for the info TRSblader, I looked up that website and they quote 85-125 dollars for rim repair depending on damage. That before/after pic they had looked worse than mine I would say. I'll give them a shout and let everyone know what they say.

Oh damn...
I havent seen a wheel that bad in a while, I would run far away from that one. Plus by the time you figure shipping costs to Europe and the cost to repair it you could buy a new set wheels.

I bought my set of 17" Evo Enkeis for $300.

I don't see why a rim wouldn't be just as reliable as original if it is repaired professionally. They do test them post repair with electronic equipment to make sure the metal is strong enough.

I did call a local company around Cincinnati Ohio. I'm pretty it was called The Wheel Doctor....

I recommend you not go there due to some local feedback from people that have used this place (feel free to PM me and I'll give you some testimonials including pictures.)

I shortened your quote for ease of reading.

Anyways, goodluck man, looks like you're going to need it, I just wanted to keep someone else from working with a company with a real inconsistent record.

Im pretty sure thats repairable, I work at discount tire and we ship out bent/cracked wheels all the time and that shouldnt cost more than 175$ or so. The only downside is that the wheel you send in wont match match the other three, seeing as the finish on it will look brand new while the other three will be weathered... Good luck

I work for a company called Transwheel. We deal with wheel doc. And repair most of there wheels. I can tell you now that wheel is repairable but nobody will fix it due to liability issues. 92 talon tsi is wrong the wheels are not tested for structure strength. The entire process is strip/blast then straightened then welded then dressed/machined then powder coat and shipped. We weld nothing even close to that damage again due to liability issues. Just buy your self a set of new wheels.
