I want to find out if there is any way to inject compressed air (not pure oxygen, just regular air) at some point of my intake. My car is n/t (of course) with the airbox removed and a k&n cone resting in the engine bay. If this would work, at what point should i plumb in the air nozzle (i use an old propane tank converted to an air can operating on 110 psi max). The airflow would be controlled via the cab where a standard blow nozzle would simply be opened and closed at my command. What psi would be safe and where would i plumb the new line in (before or after MAS, for instance. How much power could this give me? If it's not safe to do, let me know.

I would assume that if you did this then you'd have to run the tube in before the MAS or the computer won't add fuel to make up for the extra air.

I had a friend who hooked up an air compressor to his car (with duct tape and time, he can rig anything). It didn't add any power but it made a cool whistling sound going down the road.

hmmm.... extra air being forced in. Get a turbo;)

Interesting idea let us know how it works! If anything you might get cooler intake temps which is a plus.

Good Luck

you might need a S-AFC maybe, cuz you may lean it to hell, overheat and blow up, also maybe bigger injectors to comensate, it'll be kinda like running boost, kinda. jsut get a turbo kit if you're n/a, its much better

Something to keep in mind is that the pressurized air would want to go anywhere it can. So you may not be able to FORCE all of it in to the intake without some searious sealing work. Keep in mind thiat a turbo and supercharger act as both the pressure creating device as well as a sealing component. What do you plan on using to force this pressure to enter the cylinders, what will keep it from exiting back out the air filter and what will do all this WITHOUT being a restriction in the intake path when not using the compressed air?

Like doug said it wont do anything unless you can stop the compressed air from coming back out the intake. If you can stop that then you would just do the same things to the car as you would a turbo. Bigger fuel pump/FP regulator and MAP defender is prolly all you need. Unless you plan on going above 8psi

Well, let's see. We're a hundred years into cars now. Have you ever heard of this kind of set-up?

Can you figure why not?

For one thing, you're going to require much more power to run a compressor than you're going to get back out. Superchargers illustrate this fairly well- figure if a supercharger is giving 100hp to the engine, it's taking about 40hp to run it. Turbocharging doesn't have as much direct load on the engine, but it makes up for it in thermal stress (which is still power).

You might be able to figure out some way of doing it. But it wouldn't be worth the climb.

wont work, you have to pressurize the intake and there is no reason for the compressed air to hang around when it can go back out of the filter.

plus blowing air past the MAS and when it coming back out???

it might not like that.
