Is this evo3 engine for sale the real deal? Can it be dropped in?

Hey i just came across this on ebay. I am wondering if it actually is a direct swap? The guy states that you need nothing to drop it in. Is that actually the correct hp it comes with stock? 270hp? If this is true then this seems to be a really sweet deal for only 1200-1500 bucks!
Let me know what info you might have on this subject.
Thanks ---Ryan.

Yeah i noticed that. I asked if it came along or not. But other than the turbo is there anything better about the evo3 engine? Would it be better to rebuild a 2g engine or swap in an evo3 engine?

I think you are gonna waste your money on what "someone else says is a evo 3 *cough do they have paperwork to prove it* and you have no idea what is wrong with it" or your gonna get played and loose money on this.

I agree I wouldn't put money on it unless there was proof through either paperwork or checking the VIN. And rebuilding the 7 bolt is definately a bad idea in my opinion. I think the best option would be to buy a 6 bolt bottom end and use your stock head and run a bigger turbo if you want gain. I'm scared shitless my 7 bolt is gonna walk which is why I currently have a 2.3 stroker 6 bolt being built for me. Can't wait to get 'er in!

Or you can check the vendors here and order the 6 bolt crank swap for your 7 bolt! But nonetheless i think you really need to think about this 96gstdsm.

Ok i think i will stay away from this at the moment. As far as i know my engine is fine right now, i just want to start adding some good amount of power to it in the near future and my engine has almost 150k miles on it now. I am just figuring that with that many miles and adding power it is bound to have stuff start failing. I mean it could last quite a while but i would rather not risk anything. Its not worth it to rebuild a 7 bolt?
I just wont have time to do this myself ans i work constantly, so would have to be a shop unfortunately. The cost of buying a 6bolt, rebuilding it and then having a swap done would reach sky high! Thats why i was thinking of just bringing my motor to some place to rebuild it and put it back in. Any better suggestions, to stay not too expensive? Once again since i wont have the time to do it myself as this is my daily driver, labor would be a big factor in this as well.

Crankwalk is overrated, you can rebuild the 7 bolt or buy the kit swap it out to6 bolt or buy a new built motor from one of the vendors on the site http://www.dsmtuners.com/links/browselinks.php?c=2 save up dont modify your car if you dont think it will handle it. Save the money buy a motor from a place that rebuilds motors and have them or a good shop swap them out.

From RRE's website:

EVO Motors: The valve covers of the EVO 1-3 motors will be a kind of titanium color. They are the same as a US 2G motor with nothing fancy. They have the smaller 2G style intake ports, a small runner intake manifold with a larger plenum and a larger throttle body than a 2G motor. Still they are hard to find. Many are from other 4G63 powered cars and can have small 13G sized turbos.

FYI, JDM cars are rated at 270hp max because that's what is required by law. So even though in many cases a car well exceeds 270hp in reality, they still only list as 270hp. See GTRs, MKIVs, etc. They have a lot of funky tax/registration laws that are dictated by the hp output and size of motor in liters.

^^^ first of all what he said. I had a bud dyno an evoIII motor. With an intake and 2.5" exhaust the motor put down 299awhp. At a 20%'ish loss thats a hell of a lot more then 270 crank hp.Unless intake and exhaust adds 50 ponies. Very underrated to say the least. On another note, I would'nt consider that motor. I picked up a complete w/ turbo, injectors, etc. evoIII motor for 1100 bucks. Considering the turbo, injectors, exhaust mani and 9.0:1 c/r make this motor, you are missing half of what you'd be paying for. If you get a complete one for that price I would say go for it. Otherwise upgrade to something better. Buy a built short or long block and work around it. That way you know it will run and you know what your getting. Just my .02 cents.

In my oppinion JDM motors are a complete waste of money. For what you spend on them you can rebuild your current motor with forged internals and still have some money left over to play with for other stuff. It's not worth the hassle or money. I'd rather just build a motor that I know will stand up to anything I throw at it later on down the road and then some. Besides that it's still a used engine. When you build one the only thing that's used is the crank and block and maybe cams if you don't decide to get some. Everything else is brand new and you know it's going to last.

Personal experience - I needed a motor and a friend had one of these "JDM" motors for sale. I got it for a small price of $500 - He paid $1300. Anyway - Changed all gaskets/oil/etc etc and drove it for 200 miles.

Then I ended up with rod bearing #3 in chunks in the bottom of my oil pan, and the #3 rod welded to the crank.

This isn't a honda. People are beating on these motors before the ship them over. If you need a bottom end or something, save up a little more and get a BRAND NEW rebuild. I will never trust a used engine again.

I'm in the process of buying a brand new 2.4L stroker. New or nothing.

My $.02 or $3.65 Canadian. ;) :dsm:
