planning to buy this long block from a local here for 1400$

has about 1200 miles

Wiseco HD 8.3:1 pistons
cometic hp Head Gasket
Balance Shaft Elimination Kit
HKS 272 intake and exhaust cams
HKS cam gears
Greddy timimg belt
swirl and polish Ferrea 6000 competition series 1mm. oversize valves
crower valve spring and reteiners
upgraded lifters from Jacksonautomachine
Stock 1g rods
new main and connecting rod bearings
new wrist pins
new piston rings
new timing components
new freeze plugs
new oil pump
new water pump
full engine gasket set
fidanza light flywheel
ACT2600 cluth
The engine was complete balanced from crank pulley to clutch

Will also come with the fidanza and ACT clutch that also has 1200 miles. Do you guys think its a good deal for 1400$? I am planning to freshen up the bottom end with new bearings and with SCAT rods. Then will transfer the Crower springs, lifters, valves, cams, cam gears to my 2G head. Will run a 2ghead/6bolt setup.

Why spend that kind of money on an engine just to tear it apart and put more into it if nothing is wrong??? 1g rods have been proven over 500 awhp.. So unless you plan to actually PUSH this car/engine to the limits Id say save your money and just buy this engine and dont worry about it until you break it.. Seems like a fair price.

I was planning to freshen it up and have the tolerances measured for the piece of mind. I will be running a hx40 with a bep.55 housing setup on e85. Hopefully hit the low 500s. This will also be on my 2g gsx not my 1g. So 1400 sounds like a good deal?

I mean its not BAD.. When I first got into DSMs I paid like 1500 for a "JDM" 7 bolt engine with ~80k. Funny story, that bottom end is STILL in my car. Even with my Holset, Im not scared. :p

Also since you are putting it in your 2g, be ready to swap to a 1g CAS.. The 1g Cams are slightly different than 2g's. The intake cams are drilled/slotted different because of the way the cam sensor is. 1g's have a slot, 2ga's have no drilling in the end of the cam because the cam sensor is under the intake cam gear, 2gb's have a similar CAS to 1g's but instead of the "slot" they're tapped for a bolt.. Hope that makes sense. I can get pics if you'd like.

So i will still be able to swap the cams and everything else on the 2g head with no problems? I am aware of using the 1g cas reading the tech article from RRE. I also heard about using a hyundai oil pump/cover that lets you use the 2g cas. Anyone familiar with that? also saw this method from RRE http://www.roadraceengineering.com/2g6boltmotorinstall.htm

Good deal. Bet the head/springs/valves/labor alone is worth $1400. Threads like this make me fist pump at the deal that I got. I got a fresh built 7bolt (1g head) with eagle rods wiseco pistons, 8.3:1 compression, bored .20 over (2.3l stroker). Ported head with hks 264 cams, and a 91 auto awd talon panda w/ 99k miles on the body for $1000. I sold the roller w/auto trans for $750 the next day... so i got what i wanted for a cool $250.

In all honesty, it was a lot of work for me to set that up just right.

That's a good deal if all is as it says it is. Just remember , if its to good to be true, probably is. I'd pull the pan and pop a few caps. I'd also look in the cylinder bores from the bottom to see anything excessive that would make me weary. Id demand he let you crack it open and if all is well you will pay him what he wants. If something is wrong he will make excuses as to why he doesn't want you checking it out. Also pull a few cam caps and look at those journals. Yes it may have hks 272 cams, but they could be scored to all hell. This will also give you an idea on how it was run and what to expect inside the short block.

Good luck.

Agreed. When i got my deal, the guy willingly unbolted and opened the oil pan for me before i even got a chance to ask him. The lobes on the cams were kept greased and he gave me receipts for all of the new sensors that were on it. I was able to see the cylinder bores from the bottom (as little-razcal has described) to check for scaring, and also cranked it over a few times.

I don't know about the whole cam caps thing. Thats going a little too far for most sellers. I don't see anyone willing to do that without you purchasing it first, I certainly wouldn't. Not everything was clearly new.

One thing I would want to know for sure is if the valves were bent or have ever kissed the pistons. That will be a little hard to determine when the head is on the block. My only suspicion is the fact that he is selling this engine only 1200 miles after using it, either something went wrong on the car, or something went wrong in his life that is making him desperate for money.

yeah il be checking everything before i had him the money. Everything is new when he installed it 1200miles ago. He has some financial troubles thats why he is selling it.
