They pulled and re-sealed my engine last month, and then he (the shop owner) added a comment that my turbo wasn't working at all. WTF Yep...he said the wastegate was frozen, and likely been for many years. Hmmm...obviously they didn't even bother taking it for a test drive, as it still pins you back in the seat when the turbo spools up.

Then he scratches his head and says how cars are usually dogs when the turbo isn't working! LOL Ya think??:ohdamn: I don't have any peformance related issues (idles ok, no misses at idle or acceleration, never sputters or lacks power, and no strange noises). Yeah, then he parks it out in his compound in a couple inches of mud. Really appreciated that too.:(

My general rule: no matter how my car runs, if the people touching it give me the jitters and I have any doubts, I turn the other way. Can't speak for you though, as in the end it's all up to you.

if anyone working at the shop gives me a line about BS at all i tend to not trust them and never go back. One time i went to midas to get an oil change and they said "oh i noticed driving the car onto the ramp the brakes seemed spongey" no the brakes are fine you douche, Get my car off that ramp before i do it myself and drive it somewhere else because you're too incompetent to be able to do it... By the way, if you think i am paying you to drive my car 5 feet onto a ramp and not do any work that your still getting paid. You should pay me for having me allow you to drive my car those few feet.

It just means that you don't necessarily want him working on your turbo setup.

I have a shop nearby that does alignments. They're awesome with diagnosing clunking suspension noises and dialing in an alignment, but there's no way I'd want them doing turbo work. The one guy told me that I had an exhaust leak somewhere. When I asked if he could be more specific, he said between the engine and the cat and that I should take it to another shop that's better with exhaust stuff. At least he knew his limitations.

He probably put a vaccum pump on your wastegate nipple and couldn't get it to move.:aha:

Yeah, it may be more inexperience/incompetence? with these vehicles. The shop owner said he'd owned a Stealth RT Turbo but that he really admired the DSM's too. Said he'd like to find a nice one to race, if he had the time. He actually didn't do the work...just went by what the tech told him.

There's a shop an hour and a half from me who does custom performance work. The owner LOVES DSM's, claims to have owned 14 of them over the years! Think I'll go to him next time...our personalities kinda clash though...so I dunno. LOL

do you have a aftermarket boost gauge, if your not boosting then your wastegate is open, if your over boosting it's stuck closed, if your set a certain boost and maintain that boost your good to go.
