Umm i dont think that is an EPROM. Doesnt look like any eprom I have ever seen.

It is not an eprom but DSMLink is offering a eprom conversion now on non-eprom ecu. Just something to look into actually thinking of doing this myself so I don't have to worry about doing the different spark plug wire routing.

Not really understanding the above statement .. if u buy the link and get the ecu converted over then yes u will need to install the conversion ecu.

send the ecu to get convered its only a eprom chip installed thats it your good to go, to run link, you need the eprom ecu or have a chip added, thats what i did, when i got link a bundle at a really great price from sbr, last year.

What if I wanted to use ECUflash or Evoscan? What would I have to do with this ecu? Which seems to be the much cheaper alternative to buying link.. No?

You would need a flashable ECU from a 98/99 in order to use Evoscan or any of that flashing software. Cheaper? Yes. A better tuning system for someone new to tuning? Not really. Go with the EPROM conversion and get DSMLink.
