Ok, so far everything I've seen about installing a new timing belt has said that when you align the timing marks on the camshaft sprockets, the dowel pins should be pointing up on the camshafts.

When I align my timing marks on my engine the dowel pins are pointing down. WTF?

notice the aligning line is on both right and left edge of the cam gear. just turn the cams 180 degrees and align the marks again. hope this helps

Just rotate until the cam dowel pins are up and then check your marks.
It a four stroke motor

So i do believe you have to rotate four revolutions on the crank for the marks to all line up again.

god I'm an idiot.

Ok thanks guys.

The car was running before, but I had to replace the water pump, LOL, I just wasn't using my head, I think I did this last time, but that was 6 months ago.

I think I need to go to bed, I'm being stupid.
