Is there a difference between the cyclone exhaust manifold and the 1g manifold?

I was just wondering if there was a difference between the cyclone and 1g exhaust manifold. if so, is the cyclone one better and should i upgrade to a 2g or possibly EVOIII? I have the money for a new one and i don't want to buy one if i don't need one.. thanx guyz

They are the same. Getting a 2g would definately be better than the 1g though

I just installed a ported 2g manifold and while I had the old mani off I did a heavy port job on my O2 and turbo housing. I also installed a 2 1/2" downpipe, and all this woke my 90 tsi up, A big differance.

Not to hack the post or anything... but now that we are on the subject of Cyclone Intakes... I was wondering... If I do not connect the valve that makes the butterfly open and close (at boost and at vacuum) does that essentially mean that you would have all 8 runners open at all times thus creating more flow than a regular uS Spec 1G manifold?

I don't think it would work too well. There are a lot of write-ups on how to correctly set up the manifold, so you might as well just do it right.

Can anyone point me in the right direction and tell me if its worth the hassle in setting it up or should I just use my US Spec?

The gains made would be very minimal and you probably wouldn't notice the difference. If i were you i would just sell the cyclone like i did ($100) and use the money to get something better. :thumb:

i have a cyclone intake manifold and i love it. to me it doesnt feel like the same U.S spec one. i spool up alot faster then my U.S one. people bash the cyclone because its a hassle hooking it up. and if ur wondering, u dont need the JDM ECU to hook it up. i personally would just keep the cyclone.

thats my 2 cents.

DSMtalk.comforums/cyclone has a good write up on how to connect properly, they have to open at certain time. on the US spec car just use your EGR hose.

If you don't connect a vacuum/boost source to the actuator, then yes, all runners will be open all the time and it will behave the same as a U.S. intake. The default position is all open. You can disconnect the actuator and flip the lever by hand to play around with how the power feels with half the runners closed compared to fully open if you want. You should be able to feel a little more torque down low as well as feel it choking off the engine in the upper revs when in the closed position.
