Is my turbo blown? Pics inside

Pull off the intake and check the turbo for shaft play. Grab the compressor wheel nut with your fingers and try to wiggle it up and down, side to side, and in and out. Any in and out play indicates your turbo is gone. Any noticeable side to side/up and down play is bad, also. Check your lower intercooler pipe for oil as well.

From the looks of it, without actually physically being there, it appears as though the turbo is blown. Don't drive the car until you get it replaced.

When I replaced my TB about a month ago there was oil in the IC piping and there is shaft play I know it was pretty bad but I havent checked it in awhile so I cant really remember which way it was ill check tommorow. When I check for shaft play do I have to tug on the compressor wheel nut fairly hard or should it show play with barely trying to move it?

Barely move it. When the seals go out THAT bad it is easy to move the wheel.

ANY noticeable shaft play is an indication that the bearings or seals are blown. "Good" amounts of shaft play are barely noticeable.

If you keep driving on the car, you're eventually going to run out of oil (I don't need to tell you how bad that will be) plus you run the risk of breaking off chunks of compressor wheel and injesting them in the engine. See below:

:barf: Holy crap, im not driving it right now anyways I dont have the insurance and I have to do some work to it.

Well I checked for play and there was some up and down but I couldnt get my fingers into the turbo to get a grip on it, it barely spins as soon as I stop spinning it myself it stop within a second, I took the IC pipe of and there was oil around the gasket but its dark and cold out so ill do more tommorw. When I moved the shaft it felt notchy or grinding in it.

my car is blowing oil too and im thinking the seals blown. Can it be rebuilt with blown seals or is it not worth it, I dont really have the money for a new turbo yet because im looking for a new job, but I was hopeing to get it rebuilt and have it last a 3 or 4 months till I have the money to get a new one.
Theres a guy across the street from me who rebuilds semi truck turbos for a living and he can rebuild it for 100. Should I try it?

What I am going to do is just by a used one for around 125 and just use it until I can afford a new one, a rebuild kit will cost you around 125 and then take on the extra 100, you could just buy a good used one and use it for awhile.

Yep look in the classifieds, or put up a WTB ad I put up one on DSM Source and had quick replys. I would have put a WTB ad on here too but I dont have enough rep points.

Don't forget that if you do buy a rebuild kit and try to rebuild it, you will have to take it to a shop and get it professionally ballanced.

Yep or it tells you how to do it in the Vfaq and get it balanced but its sort of trickey.
