It doesn't matter if it still partially works, toss it out and replace it with a new one. As you probably know, that is so essential to smooth Idle control, you don't want to skimp on such an important electronic device.
BTW....just look at that thing, it doesn't even resemble a IAC/ISC anymore, seriously.

That to me just looks like EGR on that. Its not "burnt" its soot, from the exhaust.

take an ohm meter, make sure its the "brown" colored casing, if it is, test each pin 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, and 5-6 they must be from 28-32ohm, any more or less is going to result in a faulty idle.

Now if you have a black casing, it needs to be from 38-40ohms from what I've heard. The black casing is the new, and more efficient design. If any of the coils or "pins" are not reading the correct ohms, replace it.

www.dsmisc.com is the cheapest for a brand new OEM ISC.

I'm sorry boss, but there is no way for us to tell you if your isc is bad by looking at it. Electrical parts don't work like that.

ok i checked the pins and they read Around 30 ohms for each pair. oh its the brown casing. thanks for the help. [resolved]

Are you serious? ^^ Do you have any idea what you're talking about? Please avoid giving advice if/when you don't have a clue what you're saying.

His ISC looks fine, just got some carbon buildup. "Tossing" it out and replacing it is going to cost $200. Instead, it took him 5 minutes to determine with a multimeter that the resistance from pin to pin is fine. Next he's going to test it to make sure the plunger is trying to center itself when power is applied instead of vibrating in place(hint, hint).

Don't try to help if you don't know the answer - bad advice can be worse than no advice (no "I think" or "I guess" or "I've heard").

well, Lofty & Misphit, i apologize for trying to mislead this post on misinformation, i guess.
But i might be a new member here, but i'm not clueless about the mechanics of our cars either.
$200?......wow, where do you get your parts?
I got mine here 2 summers ago: RockAuto Parts Catalog (Idle Air Control Valve) Brand New, $75, New style black casing.
BTW, mine looked just like his photo, and yes, it did work and had the proper voltage, but it was slow, hesitated, and vibrated/clicked when adjusting, even after i cleaned it up. My car also had a terrible idle problem because of this.

Im just trying to help someone else out, maybe i shouldn't have been so upfront about tossing it out, rather suggest that if he could afford $75(much cheaper than www.dsmisc.com and same isc), he could replace it with a improved design that will last for years.

And as far as trying to "Gain" status on tuners? I'm trying to get knowledge myself. My 2ga is the only one in Kuwait. There are no PepBoys/Advance AutoParts/Autozones here, I have to learn the hardway to trouble shoot/fix my car when something goes wrong. Tuner shops? Aftermarket products? Service centers? What are those things? Turbo cars do not exist here unless directly imported like mine. So who am i going to show off to with my improved "Status" on tuners. I'm just part of the community trying to learn and pass on what i've learned from personal experience with these cars we love to drive. But its cool, i'm not mad. [RESOLVED]
