Is it worth it to work on the 1.8?

I recently purchased a 94 eclipse with a 1.8 (4g37). It only has a base horsepower of 92 with 105 toque . . . My first question is . . is it worth it to work on the 1.8. . seccond question is will the head from a 2.0(4g63) fit on the 1.8 . . and could someone please help me choose parts I'm not very good at finding them yet . .

Don't waste your time modding it. You will spend lots of money and have a huge headache by the time you are done and you will only have 150Hp if you are lucky. Save your money, by a turbo and you will be a lot happier.

Don't know about the head. I wouldn't waste brain power looking for how to make it fit...

I had a 92 1.8L for a few years when I was in college. No a head from a 4g63 will not fit the 4g37. The 4g63 is a DOHC engine and the 4g37 is a SOHC engine.

You can get a air filter, exhaust & headers (pacesetter makes them) and then your next upgrade could be nitrous. That's about as far as you go with upgrades it unless you want to put a turbo on it. There are not many companies that make performance parts for 1.8s.

Actually I've been doing some research and my manual shows the following pictures. The mounts are all the same, so you could do it, I guess. But then you need intercooler, piping, turbo, exhaust, ECU, ECU harness. I wouldn't do it. You'll be much happier with a turbo car and modding that.

To answer the thread title, The answer would be No. You can buy a turbo 1g, Have a better over all platform to work with, And still come out faster and cheaper then you would with the 1.8.

To me, my 1.8 was a very good beater car. I never had any problems from it but it's really not worth putting alot of money into it. I would keep it and get a turbo dsm.

you could do what i am doing with my 1.8 1993 Eagle Talon DL, i am saving up my money just doing little mods i am just using this at my Daily driver and making it more of a show car than anything else, you could put a short ram or a cold air, new exhaust. check your engine wires and new plugs. if you get a intake get cold air. it will make a noticble difference. just save your money and buy a TSi AWD 2/1G DSM. and use it for a fun weekend car when you still have your 1.8 super good on Gas car =)
