Is it possible to hit high 13s?

Current Setup:
Car: 97 Lancer, FWD
Engine: Stock JDM VR-4,14B turbo,450cc,vr4 intercooler,stock fuel pump, stock BOV.
ECU: MD165808 (This ECU came from the 240HP Galant VR-4 RS,with 510 inj and 16G Turbo)
Mods: 3” exhaust, K&N filter, MBC, Exedy Tri puck Racing Clutch, VR4 AWD Tranny locked for FWD setup.
Car weight: 1100kg, full interior
Tires: 16x195x50 Toyo PROXES F08. This tire doesn't grip even launching at 3k rpm.
Suspension Mods: KYB Gas all over, Merwede lowering springs.

Boosting at 15psi using 96+ Octane Pump Gas on my quarter mile run.

Goal: I wana improve my 1/4 time without touching the Engine and the weight of the car.

My last 1/4 mile time was 14.70 at 99.12 MPH. 0-60 FT was a lousy 2.543 sec. Isn’t it so slow for a light car?

I launched at 3.5k rpm, tire pressure at 22psi, 1st and 2nd gears, half to ¾ throttle action, can’t step on further because of wheel spin. 3rd and 4th gears, full throttle at 15psi of boost. Probably wheel spin on 1st and 2nd gears.

Now my question is... is there a possibility to hit low 14’s to high 13’s on just putting racing slicks (maybe Yokohama ADVAN A005N, A032R or Drag Slicks.), stiffer springs at the back? I know I need to practice harder on getting a clean launch.

With drag slicks, can I launch at 5k rpm and go full throttle on all gears?
 
You should be able to run that 14b at 17 psi on those 450's. Just make sure you aren't knocking and/or running unsafe IDC's.

And like Wendy stated, slicks make a world of difference on 2wd vehicles. With slicks and good driving skills, you should be able to net a low 13 sec. pass. Around here, many of the Hondas that run slicks, trap around 100 mph and they run mid to high 13's. There's no reason you can't. :thumb:
 
Actually, Without any sort of logging devide to see your Injector duty cycles and fuel trims, I would NOT run any more than 15 psi on your stock fuel system. 15psi is just on the safe side w/out a logger, any more and you need something to monitor these with. At 15 psi and up, you will quickly outrun your stock fuel pump and injectors.

And when you do decide to upgrade, don't forget to get something to control the extra fuel with.

At his point, he should already be monitoring his engine with a logger.

On my old set-up, I was flowing 33 lbs/min on stock 450's without pulling timing. That was a a t04b at 14 psi with a 255 fuel pump.

His set-up should be very well capable of running 17 psi. And like I previously said, he should have been using some sort of a monitoring device already. Tuning blind is dangerous and senseless.

Ok, but what if He's not running a logger? Also, you were at 14psi on a 255pump, w/ no AFPR? If so, then damn right you had enough fuel. Every car is different Paul. You have no idea what kind of condition his current fuel system is. You don't know when his last fuel filter change was, which can play a big role in fuel supply. You don't know if he has any fuel leaks, etc, loose connections, or anything like that.

All that I am trying to say is that IF he doesn't have a logger at this point, 15 psi is cheap insurance for his engine.
 
Also, I just noticed, but he has a stock fuel pump from a NT lancer, I have no idea what they flow stock. 15psi may even be too much. You'll have to get someone else's opinion on that info.

Of course not. Having an AFPR with a 255 pump is a given. My point was that 450's were large enough for the amount of boost and airflow.

I think if he was leaking fuel due to loose connections, then he wouldn't as much be worried about hitting 13's right now.

At this point, he should have some sort of engine management set-up (SAFC) and he should have a datalogger.

We both have made some excellent points Paul, I trust you would agree. I just think safe, not sorry. Just incase he doesn't have a logger, AFC, etc, he doesn't want to be on the virge of running out of fuel.
 
I tried to raise the boost at 17psi before, I can't hear any knock. The car runs smooth. No fuel cut on all gears and was shifting around 6.5k-7krpm. My problem with 17psi are the tires loosing traction at 5.5k rpm on 1st and 2nd gears. Traction is worse than 15psi. Shifting earlier will bog the car at 3rd gear.

You're right guys, I'm a little worried about my stock fuel pump(from NT Lancer) It might not be giving enough fuel at high loads. I'll try to install an aftermarket one real soon.

Should I get a Walbro 255 or 190? How bout a bosch sports pump?

I'll first try the slicks and install stiffer spirngs at the rear. That's what I noticed, Hondas and Lan Evos here have lower Trap Speeds (around 97-99) and they are all running 13's.

I dont have AFC, AFPR, data logger. I'm just using a stock fuel pump from a 1600 Non Turbo Lancer.

The only upgrade I made on the Electronics side, was the installation of the MD165808 RS VR4 ECU. The program in this ECU is more aggressive than the stock md128618 VR4 ECU.

(The RS ECU was programmed for 510cc and 16G Turbo.)

I would recommend purchasing all of the above. Due to the added airflow of the turbocharger, you will need more fuel; hence a larger fuel pump. And then you will need an AFPR to bring the pressure back down as the larger pump will probably overrun your stock regulator. Then you will need a SAFC (or something similar) to control your fuel because you are running different injectors than the ECU thinks. And finally, get the logger to monitor the engine's tune. You will need to see what the engine is doing to know what adjustments to make on the SAFC.
 
Wouldn't the engine be running lean if it thinks he's got 510's instead of his 450's? If so, I would be worried about leaning out seriously between the weak pump and wrong injectors.

If his ECU think those 510's are really 450's, then that would cause a rich mixture.

It's the other way around. He has 450's. His ecu thinks he has 510's.

xvenanxcowboyx is right. If the ECU is truly mapped for 510 it will create a lean condition.
 
Nevermind. I misread the original post. I was thinking the thread starter was using a 510cc injector with an ECU mapped for 450's. xveganxcowboyx, you are correct.

Yes, that's why I recommended that he purchase some sort of fuel management device, such as a SAFC, to compensate for the incorrect injector size.
 
14.7 at 99mph? Thats really high mph for your times. Maybe just some practice ill get you there. Stock I was running 14.8 at 92 mph ad 14.9 at 89mph, of course with awd. But a 7mph difference is huge. Some of my friends have front wheel drive with that much horsepower and cut much better than 2.5 60 foots on street tires..
