I feel like a majority of the dsms out there are just painted a different color with a set of rims. I think It's cool I don't mind, but I think most guys are not willing to put on a body kit because they prefer not to be called a ricer. What you guys think?

I think that I love my stock OEM body :hellyeah:

I have had my fun with body kits on a 97GS... I thought it looked good also, but bodykits are just not for me.

Yeah, the general consensus would say body kits are ugly on this car,yet no one has even gave them the time of day, just because that "ricer"business. I think our cars look good stock, but i also think they have the ability to look good and unique with some body mods, but for some reason I rarely see it done.

Well, this site is mostly about performance so body kits don't really fly. Except for 1 body kit that is! I'm sure everyone knows which one i'm talking about. Plus I agree with everyone else, OEM is gorgeous and less is more.

For myself, the 2gb cars were BEAUTIFUL from the factory so I personally see no need to put a body kit on either of the 2gb styles, and if I had a 2ga, i'd convert it to 2gb. Just my preference.

Anytime you put form before function, it is considered "rice". When something has a function as well as form (such as hood vents and coil-over suspension), it is usually accepted as purposeful by performance enthusiasts. And that's all your going to find on this site, people who are into performance over looks.

So your calling those supras I see out there with body kits rice LOL

Are you sayin those body kits have nothing to do with performance? ;)

Not all body kits are, some just for style. You could pretty much tell the difference between a body kit built for aerodynamic performance and for looks.

For the sake of my blood pressure and keeping this thread on track, I won't get into detail on my thoughts about the "legendary" Supra. But yes, if the body kit has no purpose except to look good, it could be seen as rice. Regardless of power.

However, not all body kits are rice. Some serve a very important function. For example, this is TSiAWD666's Eclipse (I hope he doesn't mind me using this pic for reference).

Every ounce of the body kit serves a direct purpose: To direct air where it needs to go. Whether it be to push the car down, vent the engine bay, reduce drag, it all serves a purpose. These are the body kits you see on most Supra's that are set up for racing. Aesthetic body kits can actually end up hurting performance since they produce so much drag and often add weight to the car.

So like I said, if it puts form before function, most performance enthusiasts will consider it a "rice". If it hinders performance for the sake of form, it's just silly in my book and I'm sure most would agree. But it's your car, do what you want with it. I'm just explaining the logic behind what is typically "rice" and what isn't.

THEN I guess some of the Supra's can be rice huh?

I actually haven't seen many riced Supra's and their body kits are usually for a reason. Gotta remember those things cost a ridiculous amount of money, not just any teenager can pick one up and slap on a sweet body kit. DSM's can be snatched for a cheap and therefore more demand for a solely cosmetic body kit

This guys kit is actually a replica of Gixxerdrew's GST Spyders custom made kit used to Time attack races.. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/hangout/367304-high-downforce-eclipse-body-kit-gauging-interest.html

I thought that was not a replica, but 1 of 5 made, which only those three buyers were allowed spare parts in the case on was wrecked?

Hello

So the kit was installed here are some pics of the finished product. We ran to a back to back championship victory in Super Lap Battle. With wastegate issues limiting us to 0.8bar boost! Obviously the downforce mattered!

We have a total of 5 orders and we are about to put the order in for production. So this is speak now or forever hold your peace. There will only be 5 of these ever and replacement parts will only be sold to the people who bought it previously.
