I noticed that after 1st and 2nd, that acceleration in 3rd seems a lot slower than the first two gears. Is that common?

1. Do you have a manual trans?
2. If yes, does your rpms drop off/level and then pick up or is it slow all the way across

If yes to the first and your rpms are dropping then picking up, then your clutch may be going, i had a friend who had the same thing happen to him

NO, 3rd gear was always my power house gear, my 1st was short as hell, and 2nd pulled pretty hard but 3rd juss spun the speedo like noones business

if its slow all the way across only the higher gears, probably youre clutch.
if its slow all the time it could be anything really

sounds like your clutch, dude, it needs to go, my friend experienced the same problem, and he only had 100 miles on his clutch before it was totally gone. This was on a VR4, but i still think you need a new clutch His powerhouse gears i.e. 4th in his car, 3rd in DSMs were the first to lose power, all roads lead to a new clutch

Sounds like you have a "lack of power issue" :D

If it were a slipping clutch, when he went WOT the rpms would rise up suddenly with him feeling like he's going nowhere.....could be a bad clutch.

3rd gears pulls real hard for me.

sure its just youre sense of speed? ive been in different cars where different gears have more "powerful" fell than others. my old tbirds 2nd was its best, then it hit 3rd at about 70 and its like it hit a wall. my eclipse feels great in 2nd, then hits 3rd and although its the gear thats gonna make or break a race, its also our longest. it does seem like it takes forever to reach 6k, but then looking back at the civic you just smeared, it makes up for it.

Humm..I don't think your car is having a issue. In every eclipse/talon I have been in 3rd gear and above feel slower. In fact, 3rd gear is what makes or breaks most of my races.
