Is a data logger only way to tell knock???

I have a 98 Eclipse and I was wondering if you have to have a data logger(DSM Link)? From what I have read you really only need it to know when you knock. Basically I have to pay 500+ for a DSM Link?IS THERE ANOTHER SOLUTION since the SAFC isn't accurate?? ---James

A cheaper alternative would be to find yourself a '95 eprom ecu and order an eprom from Keydiver. He can send you a chip that will convert your stock boost gauge into knock meter that you can keep an eye on tuning.

Well dsmlink is basically a datalogger+tuning device all in one complete package. On a 2g, you do need dsmlink or a standalone in order to see knock, but that is surely not the only reason it is used. The tuning advantages that you get with dsmlink over something like an S-AFC/pocketlogger setup are tremendous.
