Hi all! So....I'm new to the DSM community, but not so new to the turbo community. I've owned several tuner turbo cars, a CRX B16 turbo, (I know, EEEWWW), a Dodge Shadow turbo, and a Dodge Shelby Charger turbo. Due to life and growing "old" I've been without a project turbo car for about 5 years.
Recently at work, I got into a "discussion" with my company's vice president. He owns a 2007 Corvette C6 (not a Z06) and thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread. During our "discussion", he told me that "There's not a four cylinder out there that can out run my 'Vette." I laughed, and said "Wanna bet?" Much blustering and alcohol consumption later, I decided to prove him wrong.
I've know DSM's are the "turbo shiznet" for quite a while, and spent my evenings browsing Craigslist to find a suitable project vehicle. After a few weeks of watching, I came across a car with some potential: a 1992 Eagle Talon TSI AWD.
The car had a built bottom end with Weisco pistons and Eagle rods, with zero miles on it. It had a Walbro 255, MBC, SAFC, and a 3" Thermal turbo back exhaust. Most importantly, it had an "old school" FP GREEN turbo with zero play at all.

Now for the bad: The guy had timed the intake cam 180 degrees out (not sure how he accomplished that) and bent all 8 intake valves the first time he cranked it.

I went and looked at the car, and almost left when I set eyes on it.

The body was ROUGH! The guy had decided to shave the factory ground effects, and add a Blitz body kit. He did NOT know how to do body work. However, he was completely truthful about the turbo, motor, exhaust, and add ons. So, we haggled a bit and I bought the car for $800.00 and towed it home.
I got the car home, and the next evening while browsing Craigslist (NEVER a good idea unless you want to spend money) there was an ad for ANOTHER 92 Talon TSI AWD. This one was mostly stock with 115,000 miles and was running with just one minor problem: no title. The guy had bought it from a guy who then got deported (OOPS) right before giving him the title. I thought, "what a great parts car!" and went to look at it. We haggled for a bit, and I drove my parts car on the trailer for $500.00.

I've started tearing the motor apart on the project car, and plan on using the parts car mostly for body parts. I plan on keeping a running tally of all money spent on this build and posting it here. While I don't have to be cheap with this build, it will give me great satisfaction to burn my Boss's $40,000 'Vette with a car that I have less than $5,000.00 invested in. So, we're going to find every way we can to cut corners monitarily without sacrificing quality. If I can do it myself, I will.
