Hi there everyone, been creeping the site for a while now and found a lot of good info. i just recently bought another DSM :) I had a 94 Tsi awd as a first car when i was a bit younger and still in school, but never really played around with it. this time i'm planning a little more out of a 1990 Tsi AWD.
my question is this, i'm buying the talon off a friend I went to basic with, he said he just doesn't have the time to fix it anymore, but aparently has it narrowed down to the knock sensor and blown caps on the ECU. I picked up a 1990 Tsi FWD as a parts car (running) for close to nothing because it needed a bit to pass inspection. so i know the ECU in the FWD will swap over to the AWD, and i can send the old ECU to get fixed by ECMlink and EPROM work done for tuning. Just kinda wondering if there's anything else i should be looking for? i'm going to swap out the knock sensor and ecu next week when i get home to see if that's it, but it never hurts to ask about common thing i might as well hit up before anything else.

thanks!

So, is the problem not starting? I do not think a faulty knock sensor would cause a no-start situation... the knock sensor is used by the ECU to reducing timing to protect the motor in case of detonation...

I did a quick search and found this thread which had info about the ECU and no start:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/210809-problems-after-new-caps-ecu.html

It mentions testing by disconnecting the fuel pump which might help you test the ECU function. Hope this helps!
