Hello all, My name is Mike. I have owned a total of 6 DSM's. I currently Own 2 DSM's... 92 Laser RS turbo bone stock 205,000 miles.:thumb: Then yesterday I just purchased a 96 Eclipse RS with the 420A.:ohdamn: 173,000 miles and has some issues. Its also my first non-4g motor I've ever owned. My questions are this: The laser runs really good but when your cruising over 75 it stumbles then recovers fine then stumbles again. Im kind of thinking the fuel filter either way its getting changed just wanted to see if anyone else had ideas. 2nd question is on the eclipse, are the 2g's lower balljoints in the front set up like the 1g's where you have to change the control arm and all? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike,

The Laser's issue could be the fuel filter, could be anything. Hard to tell without being there.
On your 2g you have it backwards. 1g's you can just change the balljoint out with a press or c-clamp (pressuming you have a good one), on a 2g the whole lower arm is changed. Its not a hard job unless the bolt for the lower arm is seized but even then just use a sawsall to cut the bolt only and get a new bolt and nut for it. Im thinking someone found a part# to just have the old balljoint pulled out and a new one pressed in but the whole lower arm on a 2g should only be about $45 from a local auto store.

OK ty... On the 2g I have it ended up bein inner tie rods... I replaced the tranny mount which btw was a major PITA... The moron that owned this car b4 didnt have the rear motor mount hooked up:applause: And your info on the 1g ball joints is awesome news difference between $120 and $20 ty.

Hi Mike, welcome to the Forum :)

I would think a clogged fuel filter would give you problems all the time and not just at 75 mph, but changing it out is cheap, might as well start there. Good luck :thumb:

Half way down the firewall, passenger side, cant miss the line going from it to the fuel rail. Fitting under it and banjo bolt on top

1g ball joints can be pressed out of the control arm, 2g's can not, they have 2 lower ball joints and one upper. The upper on the 2g can be pressed out and replaced.

Alll of my local auto parts stores run $40+ for the fuel filter... I instantly went to rockauto and like always $12 :D Plus some misc. stuff for the wifes 2g. so sometime the middle of next week I get a nice long garage day... How big of a pain are the interior and exterior door handles on 2gs??? Another random question, my 2g sometimes doesnt want to go into 2nd or reverse not sure why... I do know that all the linkage is ok at the tranny havent looked by the shifter. Could bad innertie rods factor in to any of my problems?

Finally got the fuel filter... Installed it right away, pretty straight foreward job. Seems to have fixed the issues for now... I think she might have a small boost leak somewhere because theres still a slight hiccup every once in a while at idle. Time to break out the tester again:D
