Interior replacement

Im in the middle of doing a restore on my eclipse and while im waiting on some car parts i wanted to replace my headliner and like floor upholstery especially the trunk and roof i guess you can say haha. The roof is stapled back up because of the previous owner and i would like to change that. Does anybody know if I can just buy pre cut/lined upholstery for it? If so where? Or am i better off just buying fabric and cutting it myself.

It's mostly because of the fact that the carpet has never actually been in a car before and the fact that you are trying to form it to the shape of your interior.

Before you go and replace the carpeting try washing it. I recommend removing it, renting a Rug Doctor from somewhere and cleaning it with that. You'd be surprised how much will come out.




As far as your headliner I'd just watch a few Youtube videos and get some ideas.

That actually sounds amazing ha ill try the rug doctor idea and see where that gets me. Hopefully if i can avoid paying for the carpet then i will haha but ill take your advise on the headliner spray... Would def rather not have to worry about stapling it up again haha

i dyed my carpet i went with something called "Rite dye". Washed my carpet really good and let it soak in the dye for a day and turned out like new. i got about 6 bottles of the rite dye.

They give you way to much and makes the install so so much more difficult. It would be great if a place actually sold a plug n play carpet.

Without mass backing the carpet will be a ton easier to work with and you wont cuss as much. It took me, iirc, a total of 10hrs to do the full install correctly. It was miserable

In addition to what gusu said, try a carpet cleaner called "spot shot". It works wonders on dirty carpets. It made the tan carpet in my Talon look new. You can get it at Wal-Mart for $3 a can.

I went threw some hard cleaning in my old 2g, took out the carpet sprayed it with purple power, actually more like drenched it in that, and scrubbed the crap out of it. Looked like new when I was done took about 2 hours all together that includes running to the car wash and pressure washing the hell out of it.

I had the same problem, Me and my gf completly redid the interior of her dad's beater four runner. (Hes a Dr and doesn't like taking his Mercedes into the ghetto where he has a clinic at) New speaker, carpet, head unit, and got it painted on the outside. The center and stuff wasn't cut out. So squares for the shift knob and stuff had to be cut. Also an almost complete circle to make a flap for the spare tire tools under the back seat. This part was mostly the thin carpet so it was pretty easy but sometimes that heavy duty backing was close enough it needed to be cut it it look a bunch of passes, and cutting away. We laid the old carpet on top to make a template. I under cutted everthing and made it bigger when it was in the car. (better to under cut than over cut) I'm sure if you had some nice sharp shears it wouldn't be so bad. I used a box cutter and scissors.

Yup, box cutter/utility knife. The way the carpet is molded factory makes it nearly impossible to bend a new carpet over it. And there are a LOT of holes and slots that have to be cut out for the eclipse. I would do it in a second in my lincoln or expedition but never any 2 door compact like an eclipse. I will say that the sound quality and road noise did come down quite a bit but a much better way is to buy the reg carpet w/o mass backing and then just put your own sound deadening material in underneath(if thats a concern for you)

Im going to need all the sound deadening i can get come next yr. Doing the awd swap and not running a full exhaust: dumping it to ground about 2 ft back from firewall, so itll be underneath me basically . Straight 3" dumped, no muffler, wg dumped....... whoa its gonna be loud but that turbo will sound oh so sweet!

I got my carpet from stockinteriors.com - if you get the mass backing get it seperate, they didn't cut it right for my floor so it was just a big waste and a pain.

If you end up doing the carpet by your self, once you cut it and molded, heat it where you did the cuts, so it can melt and glue itself, it will be melted and become a one peace, Just heat it from the bottom and it will glue itself.

There is also fabric paint that works well. Can be purchased at any auto parts store

Will be cheaper to do it yourself, at the expense of labor. But in the end, if you do it yourself, you can choose any color/pattern/texture/material you want and have a more custom look. After that you'll have the ability to change other interior parts to match.

I didn't think it was too hard of a job. You do have to keep plenty of replacement blades for the utility knife that you use though!!! I am very happy with the results.

well, stop teasing, show us the photos , i have been looking for a replacement for a while, i ripped my old one out because it smelled like monkey butt!

I went with black with mass backing in my interior. I tried to cut quickly around the center console section. I screwed up the install..badly. I cut out too much from the passenger side, so when I went to put the seat back in place it pulled the carpet out from under the console and there was a few inches gap. I liked the mass backing, as the sound deadening reduced the amount I thought I was going to be deaf in a few years. The look and feel I thought was better than my Audi. I'll probably be ordering the same exact carpet and doing it again. Better this time. It's just not a priority with my engine out.

^^^Tru dat!!!! It's not my DD, so I was able to take my time.

There are a lot of custom interior ideas already all over this forum. Door panels, headliner, carpet, tints, dash, lights, sound systems, and so on. Doing the interior can be very pricey and a lot of back breaking work. The space is so tight and small it will take awhile. Paying someone to do it will be a bad idea because they won't know what you want and they will charge a lot.

In my personal opinion i love the clean, stock interior look and make it look nice with gauges, sound system, LED replacement, tints, and that about it. I know many people who will go all out for their custom interior and end up hating it. For me spend the time and money doing maintenance and working on making your car faster. If you ever do go to sell your car many people will look down at a custom interior because its not their personally liking. Just a couple suggestions to think about

oh my, that carpet is to die for

Seriously, is that cut 801- Black ? and this mass backing is that the "foam" under the original carpet ? or what does it look like?

i plan to fill the car with "peel n seal" to reduce noise, i have a noisy engine, and road noise. would you still recommend mass backing or not needed ??
