Edmonton,
Ok, I've modified my intake a bit (94 Talon ES, A/T).

Because I am using fairly narrow piping (2.5") and longer distance than stock, there are very noticable torque gains in the lower-to-mid rpm range. I've also cut out the stock "air bottle" and cut the small circle hole to a big one, allowing lots of fresh air to the filter.. i also have a heat shield for the filter and heat wrap on the piping now which isn't shown in the pic.

My first question is, what does the ECU do once its recieved the measured air velocity/temperature? I know generally from reading that it changes fuel and timing..

My second question is, how can i modify the MAS to trick the ecu into thinking i'm actually getting warmer air than i am? Also, is this a safe mod to do on 87 octane?

Someone please inform me, I have a lot to learn on these cars.. THanks!

Why would you want the car to think it is getting warmer air? WTF Most of us want the coolest air we can get! Are you getting pinging? Also, you asked If 87 pump gas is O.K. Wellfor your car (non turbo) it is probably alright, however I would never use anything lower than 91 octane. But that is onlybecause I lovemy ride, and I figure it is cheap insurance for the motor! :dsm:

on cars with VAMs, there is a door which allows air in, at high density/cold air it allows much less air in than at low density/hot air; so tricking the ecu into thinking its hot (when its cold outside) opens the door more, allowing more cold air than usual, giving you more air in the combustion chamber. you have to be careful when doing this as you will probably run leaner than your ecu knows about, unless it corrects it with info from the exhaust o2 sensor somehow with fuel (the most desired result) or by correcting the vam door (back to square 1).

what i'm wondering is how to achieve this same affect with the honeycomb MAS system that our cars use.

anyone know? thx.
