Hey guys, this is the 3rd dsm that I have owned, I got it back in May and finally had some time to clean some things up. I replaced a cracked J pipe, bought a 3 inch intake from extreme psi, used spa hose to recirculate the BOV (previous owner vented of course), flushed the coolant, and changed oil/filter (mobil 1 10w30).

Problem is, I took her off jack stands, fired her up...and boom..CEL comes on. The car runs pretty good and strong. I drove it autozone to have them check the CEL and its for a Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor. The guy was like it's a 20 dollar sensor if you want to pick it up.

I did some research and found it its inside the MAF on turbo 2g's and read that you can't really replace it unless you know someone who can solder those 7 wires that are showing as soon as you pry open the MAF. Is this true? What should I do? I have a friend who I could trust if I need soldering. I ordered a 95 eprom ecu just recently (plan to run link at some point next yr..older dsm's I used safc and I want this one to run right after I throw some fuel mods at it) and the guy included his 2g maf with it for a good price so I will have another MAF here sometime this week to swap them out and see if the CEL goes away.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

yeah its probably for a non turbo eclipse or something. ive never come across an air intake temp sensor on mine

The sensor for turbo's is on the inside of the 2g MAF from what I have researched. I'm not sure if I can replace just the sensor though without having to cut and then re-solder the wires.

Is that my only option, besides trying another 2g maf (which I will when it gets here in the mail).

Anyone?????

:(

^wait is your car turbo or not? I thought n/t didn't have a maf?
These cars will throw all kinds of codes along the intake tract, a guy at my job just replaced the map on his gst for no reason except a cel, triggered by something else

I think what Pauly is inferring is if your maf was unplugged you triggered the cel. Reset the ecu if the cars running ok

The sensors on dsms are pretty dumb. I have yet to actually have a cel for any real problem, and every real problem never triggers a cel

Oh yeah, forgot to clarify that point. Mine is a 4G63 non turbo, fully stock. I've made a reset to the ECU to avoid that. The car is getting that error while the plug is still in place. I've checked for continuity in all the wires that connect the MAS to the ECU. Kind of running out of ideas.

First off, yeah, first time around here... didn't even think about starting a new thread!
And sure enough pauleyman, you were right. The ECU sensor ground connection got burnt (inside the ECU). Not a fan of my fix since I had to weld a wire :toobad: but, everything is now working perfectly!

Lesson learned: Never trust battery cables that are used to protect the battery while you weld on the car. Turns out that the discharge from the welding screwed up the ECU.

Thank you for the time, help and patience guys! :thumb:
