installing sensors on oil filter housing

When i am installing the two sensors on the oil filter housing. should I put some sealant or thread sealent or teflon tape on the threads or could that lead to a big leak? also too remove the housing do I have to take the timing belt off?

I guess you could use sealant, I think in the manual it tells you to. However, a lot of sensors/senders tell you not to put teflon tape or sealant because it uses it as the ground.
