Ok, I know how to install it. RRE has a nice "installing guide" and it's kind of a "duh!" thing. ('Cept for the top one being filtered and the bottom one not, I wouldn't have known that.)

Anyway, my problem is that f#($#@ bolt or whatever you call it stripped! The bolt was in so well, that when I went to remove it, it stripped the inside of the bolt out so now I can not get it out at all! What can I do to remove that mothafu****????

From RRE:

1G: Remove the correct Allen plug from the oil filter housing. See the photos below for the correct location !If the Allen plug is tight and you think that you might strip out the Allen socket, heat will loosen it. The heat allows the aluminum housing to expand and loosen it's grip on the plug. Heat also loosens any thread sealant. Get it warm with a propane torch or oxy/acetylene torch. Don't melt anything, just warm it up good. If you strip out the Allen fitting to the point that an Allen wrench wont turn it, you are screwed.

Man, I wish I would have read this sooner. :(
 
I did the same thing a few years back when I was doin my 6 bolt swap. I ended up having to drill it out. Starting with a small bit and get bigger. Then I used a easyout and an air drill. It worked and I did not mess up the treads. Hope it works out for you. :thumb: :dsm:
 
Did you do that with the oil cooler still on the car? I can't see having any room to get in there to do anything.

I barely had room to get my 3/8 in drive and 8mm hex socket in there. :(

I hate these cars. I really honestly do.
 
Sometimes you can use a larger size allen wrench and knock it into the plug with the heat added and you may get lucky an get it out but mine was in so tight I needed extra leverage on the allen and mine made a big CRACK sound when it loosened.
You still have the oil line from the head feeding your turbo, yes? What turbo do you have?
Your other recourse is when you go to change the timing belt that you replace the filter housing altogether. MArk
 
I think I am gonna just remove the oil cooler/filter housing and get a machine shop to get it out.

It has a brand new timing belt installed on it already. I think it might have a whole 3 miles on the belt. Maybe. I only drove it around the block a couple of times before replacing the turbo as well.

I will try to wedge a bigger alen wrench in there though, with some added heat to get it out. See if MAYBE that will work, but I am affraid that I am gonna have to take it off. :(

Maybe one of those Torx-sockets would work better, sharper corners.
The reason I mentioned the belt is that I was of the understanding that to remove the filter housing there was more to remove from that side of the motor. Mark
 
I did mine when the engine was out. I had to take it off and use a bench vice to hold it. You can try using a bigger allen wrench, BUT, you have little room and it may not work. All you need to do to take it off is remove your (a/c,power steering,alt) belts. Then remove your timming belt cover. There will be 5 bolts that hold it on. First, drain your oil and remove filter. Then remove! You may want to find a new gasket from parts store or dealer. I hope this helps. My suggestion is to remove and take to a michine shop. It shouln't cost much. Good luck! :thumb: :dsm:
