I'm kinda in the middle of a head swap right now and i need my car done by a certin deadline. Anyways I was going to put on ARP headstuds but the set i have is missing a nut somehow, anyways i'm really pissed about and not sure what to do. But what i want to know is if its okay to put in my stock head studs for the timing being and get everything running then latter on put in the APR's with out taking off the timing belt or any of that shit. I'm going to be using a cometic headgasket if that matters since it is reuseable. But will it be okay to swap the headstuds later on?

also what about using 9 ARP's and 1 stock one short term? bad idea or will it be okay?

are u sure thats safe to do? When you pay $100 for a kit to fasten down your head i don't think you just want to use a nut from anywere.

That's your best option, far better than mixing Studs & FAR-FAR BETTER than swapping out a Stud later IMO - Being you are on this self-imposed "deadline & in the milddle of a Head Swap" as you put it. .. Slap some of the Anti-Seize that comes with the Kit on the Nut & button it up - Add any running Torque required to run any Nuts down the Stud to the Final Torque Spec.

if you have a real fastener store around then just take in the nut and see if they have something comprible...or call arp and see what they say (im sure they wont reccomend using anything but THEIR fasteners though)

im not talking about a home depot or ace hardware...i mean a place that specializes in fasteners (nuts, bolts, ect.)

good luck..dont rig it now or you might pay for it later

Ya i didn't want to put any kinda "cheap-fix" on there now thats why i wanted to know if i could put factory ones in now and try to get a APR nut for it in the near future then when i need to pop off the valve cover and take out the stockers and put in ARPS. I would never consider doing this on a stock Headgasket but since i have a cometic i was wondering if would cause any problems?

Id say you would be ok with this, use the stock one on the 10th stud so when you torque it to spec the others wont be disturbed since its the last one to be torqued anyway... not sure if im explaining it clearly. The 10th one going by the torque sequence... there u go :)

ya thats were i was planing on putting it if i go that route, then later on take out the one stocker and put in a ARP. The only thing i was worried about though is will having full torque on the studs next to #10 while replacing it cause any damange to the head?

at a local machine shop they sell just the nuts for the studs...if you want i am sure you could get them from them

:dsm:

just got off the phone and there sending me a new one at no charge :) Great company :thumb:
