Old thread, I know...

Am I the only one that is building the 2.3 for a fun "quick" car?

I'm slapping the 3052 on and contimplating a set of FP2's or FP1x (sans spring upgrade) I think I'll set the rev limiter to 8k, but I doubt I'll go there often..

I've got a stock transmission so I don't have dreams of low 11's or anything, I'd love to hit high 11's with this setup, but mostly I want a fun DD that is capible of getting decent gas milage (my other vehicle barely breaks double digits on MPG)

To that effect I think i'm going to keep the stock 2g head / intake mani (its got a very low torque curve) and toss cams in & I should have a damn fun daily driver, I bet that 3052 will spool like a 16g or better (T-25?)

Guess I'm just weird though

You can go tens with the stock trans so I see no reason why you can't go low 11's :rocks:

Only thing you might want to lookinto is a welded center diff other than that your good.

I thought the factory trans was weak thats why guys buy shep or tre ones.
So you think with my mods it will stand up if I keep my shifting to 7500 or under? I was planning 4 spider diff and better trans as part of next years mods.

It more depends on how you beat on it and how high you rev. There is a shop around me called dogbox racing(not the rediculous expensive trans) located near Toms River NJ. The one guy that is part owner I guess you caould say said that for my goal of 500whp and reving around 8k max that with a good stock rebuild that it should hold. If you want to be safe the weakest part of the trans is the center diff. Get it either welded or the uprgraded one you were gonna get and your money :thumb:

It's a realitive thing. If you like to do 6000rpm clutch drops and no-lift shifting then the stock trans isn't going to last long. If your like me and more or less roll the car out off the line and then hit the pedal it will last longer. However, with a 2.4 and a big enough turbo torque will take its toll on the trans whether your easy on it or not. I currently have a stock trans and I know that in the near future I'm going to need to upgrade if I expect to keep racing this thing.

I would recommend that you do the upgraded Shep/TRE tranny and a welded diff/spool/4 spider center diff at the same time.

Yeah rick's right with a stroker the extra torque will def be something to think about. Low 11's I think just a upgraded center diff but if you plan on getting crazy or know your the kinda guy to race a lot or like to launch hard then I would go with either a race built trans from the same company I talked about earlier dogbox racing or a shep or TRE

Definatly all about the driving methods.

I know a guy who drops the clutch all the time. he pulls good numbers for his set up, but he also goes through trannies faster than i go through toiletpaper.

I'm gonna hope for 11's granny shifting (no power shifting :( save that for my other car :thumb: )
