Alright, I am a newly licensed driver as of january and i wanted a tsi badly for my first car but instead i ended up with a mustang, and its not even a v8 its just a 98 base 6 cylinder model... My friend up the street wants to sell me his esi for 300 bucks, cause the timing belts blown and the pistons are fried, i figured i should take it and rip the engine out and throw a turbo engine in it scince the clutch and tranny and body are till good... does ne one have ne suggestions? Will this be a hard and expensive job? This will be my second car so i wont go over board on it but i know my mustang aint moving in the winter with rwd and i hate mustangs ne way... i wanna hear a turbo when i shift.... but ne way if someone can direct me where to look to find a nicely priced engine for this type of job and give me ne directions or info i might need thatd be great... its a 1995 eagle talon esi, maual transmission, and i think its fwd.... thanks..:thumb:

The non-turbo to turbo motor swap is not a completely drop-in affair. Because the motors basically face different ways, the tranny is on a different side, intake faces the other way, and the motor mounts are different. This isn't saying it can't be done, but it will require some fabrication.

After the swap, the car will be FWD. You were worried about the mustang being bad in the snow as a RWD, but a modded FWD with street tires won't be too much (if at all) better. If you sold the mustang, you could recieve more than enough $$ to purchase a 1g or 2g that is turbo from the factory.

This motor swap job is way too hard, too expensive, and too time-consuming to do when you can just get a DSM that came turbo. That's just my two cents. Take it for what it's worth, and if you have your heart set on doing the swap, don't let me discourage you. It CAN be done, and lots of people on this site can help you do it.

Just know everything it will involve before you decide to do it. It's harder than you probably think.

What i would do is buy the esi sell your stang part out the esi until u had ALL of the good parts buy a 1g t or 2g t with the stang money and now u have extra parts becuz god knows you WILL NEED THEM...

Im just turning 16 and bought a 95 esi for 500 it needs the head redone because the timing belt broke also but it didnt hurt the pistons I wanted an tsi also but after seeing what the insurance is on the esi i think im going to wait until i get out of high school to get one. Do you have to pay your insurance on your car or will your parents do it if they do then that would not be a factor if i were you I would buy the esi sell the stang and just fix it the pistons are probably not bad its probably has no compression becuase the valves are bent has your friend took off the head yet? and just like brute said it would be costly and alot of work to swap the 420a for 4g63

OR.... buy the ESI for the $300, replace the head and pistons (with forged ones), and buy a Hahn Racecraft Turbo kit for your car. You get the insurance premium of a non-turbo car, the "reliability" of the Chrysler engine, and the "sound of a turbo when you shift" (though really you hear the BOV when you shift; you hear the turbo before you shift.) and you're still probably under the price of a 2nd gen GSX or TSi.

Lots of people here have gone this route. For $300 and minimal investment, you could have a very serious car.

I agree with Mr. Boxx... if you do buy this ESI, don't bother trying to swap in a 4g63. Its harder than you think. If you want the 4g63 that bad, just take your time and find a TSI. Or try the Hahn Racecraft kit as stated above. Although not in the same league as the 4g63, it is hands down the best way to add forced induction to the 420a. Just my $0.02... Best of luck with whatever you choose! :thumb:

Recently, like a month or so ago i came across a sick ass 1991 eclipse gsx, the body was a little ruff, but the interior leather was in good shape, the engine needed a coil pack so it wouldnt start, the tranny was strong and it was manual shift and the clutch was good, it had 79k miles on it and a crack in the wind shield... also he cant find the key or the title... So this guy wants 700 for this car because of the things it needs like the coil pack, probably a new ignition because of the lost key and a clamed lost title... Theres a GSX for 700 bucks sitting up the street from me and my dad wouldnt let me get it because it wouldnt start.. Does 700 sound right?

First thing I would do is find out if the guy ever had the car titled in his name. If he didn't, consider this a parts car. It will almost always cost you about the same amount as you can get the car for to get a good title. Buy the car, strip it and then find a good shell with a title for cheap and make a good one. Just my .02
