In need of a new Bov... possibilitys?

so previous owner put like a $30 ebay blow off valve on my gsx...
in need of an upgrade very soon, many have said go with a crushed 1g capable of 24psi or so...

but idk if it will be a direct bolt up...
i was thinking about replacing that small section of piping with a pipe with a new flange ready to be mated to something a bit more reliable.

any ideas on this? cutting and welding may not work, i dont want to destroy my intake. thought bout trying it and if it doesnt work cut it out and replace it...
but idk if i want that hassle

considering the time and effort it would be to cut the old flange out and then weld the new flange on, (with my harbor freight $80 wire welder) probly would just melt the pipe and turn out shitty... a new pipe is like $20 or so, and then the cost of the new bov with recirculation fitting ranges anywhere from 80 (1g) to god knows how much...

only running a 16g, still dont have a MBC yet,
so stock is somewhere between 8psi (what my gauge reads) and 12.5psi (what other threads have said...) depending on engine, leaks, etc.

anyone else have a problem like this? did they just replace the pipe or what?
thanks just kinda curious about this, cause after my other thread its been bothering me.
 
Putting a hard pipe in to replace the soft pipe is always a good upgrade. If you do that then find the cheapest kit around and get the BOV flange you are looking to use.

If you need something for now you can use the adapter that I posted up.

yeah thats the things, its fmic, all hard piping.
but he went with a cheap ass bov and i have no idea what the flange is...
so im debating about getting just a samll piece of pipe with the flange i need, and use to rubber boots with clamps and see how that does...
 
IMO i would just buy a true greddy BOV it wil bolt on to your setup. i seen the pics u posted on previous threads. greddy type S or Type RS....

so your thinking that thats stock mounting flange then? cause that would be awesome... from that link it looks like it would fit, idk im bout to just buy it and go for it, i need to get the recirculation fitting, or a plug,
and ideas on that, will i see any difference with it being atmospheric?

You will need a GM MAF and a GM MAF Translator to vent to atmosphere. its better to recirculate with how the engine works
 
run it recirculated or your car is gonna run really rich (idles like shit). if you run atmospheric then you are releasing air that has already been metered by the MAS. take my word for it, just run recirculated.

As far as the BOV i would go with a greddy type-rs. you can get them pretty cheap and they are rated for like 30+ psi (if i remember correctly). if the type-rs doesnt come with a recirculating flange let me know i have extras.

well its not the stock mounting flange thats why i would just buy the greddy bov. or you're gonna have to buy the 1g/2g mounting flange and bov. This way u can keep your current flange and upgrade in the same motion. :thumb:

so yeah running recirculating and then probly getting that greddy rs.
also, is it true i need headstuds for anything over 20psi?
heard 18psi was ok, but 20 is risky etc. any info?
 
you will need larger injectors and fuel pump before you can run 20+ psi, so i would worry about that stuff first. But to answer your question, yes headstuds are recommended for running higher boost. I'm not 100% sure at exactly what psi you need to upgrade, but i've alway just gone with anything higher than 18.

Studs are always a good idea and very easy to install. You will kick yourself in the testies if you pop the HG for not spending the $100.

found arp headstuds for 63.99 at a local store back home...
so yeah figured it was a no brainer...
anyone know of any threads talking about internals,
and when is it time to start building?
and how much power can the stock internals handle?

There is a thread around here somewhere, were a guy took a stock engine and made 659HP out of it with boost and a cam install.
