Tried auto-x today and I am in love, I am now motivated to invest in a good set up for the track. Couple pics. Just gave some dude my camera, pics are not awesome....

My question, what is the best way to go with the following, Tires (thinking about 245 starspec)on evo 8 wheels, LSD, springs to go with KYB AGX.

I want to try it so bad but my car isn't on the road yet. Cant wait until it is and then im going to take some pics.

As Scott said...

If someone had told me that I'd park my bikes and give up riding just so I could drive a car I would have laughed them out of the house ! Yet here I am - 6 bikes in the workshop, none run - none have run since 2001 ! All so I can ponce around in a cage. Sheesh...

so what exactly are you asking for, spring recommendations? lsd options?

I would love some feedback on what are the best tires, springs to complment KYB AGX, and LDS options, prices, feedback, etc. :D

welcome, don't buy mods til you know what class you plan to campaign in.
if you're a novice, improving your skill will far surpass any mod.
tires are 2nd but again class rules will dictate what's best.
is this for scca?

Chances are that you're already in Street Mod so you can pretty much do whatever bolt-ons you want to the car. Still, double check the rules. I'm also hooked. I get laughed at by friends when I say I'm putting a $1600 suspension setup in my car that might get $4000 if I sold it as is.

You are also now aware that having bright orange cones in your avatar pic makes you cool. :p

I'm in SM-novice. My car is totally built, it has springs, kyb agx struts, fuel system, turbo upgrade, etc, etc, etc..... Yes this is scca.

The first AutoX I went to, I had no clue what to expect. I asked the one guy what class I was in. He asked what was done.

I started, "Front mount, BOV, exhaust from turbo back..."

He stopped me and chuckled. "Yeah. You're definitely in SM. Good luck." He then turned and chuckled to himself as he walked away.

Needless to say, I haven't been very competitive yet. My times are good compared to my friends, but PAX kills my time compared to them. So did some crappy all-seasons. I bought some Star Specs, but I haven't been able to get to the track yet and try them out. Blown turbo.

Yeah, I just want to get out there and have smooth, fast, clean, runs not concerned about beating any one.... yet. LOL.

I always pictured it as a slightly more interesting type of driver's ed course. Turned out to be the most fun I've had in a parking lot since that one night in the mid 80's with what's-her-name.

50 mph around a turn sideways is just fun... no matter how you slice it.

:D

I have to admit that I was a bit surprised at the bruise on my shoulder and how sore I was (everywhere) after a full day of it.

I was in the same boat, after driving for a day my legs and my arms hurt from cranking the wheel and having to shif a lot.

Never thought I would have as much fun as I do canyon driving, but its a lot safer so that got me. What I have heard is a good AutoX suspension setup is GC coilover sleeves with Koni Yellows, but there is another one people stand by on here that is a little more technical and in depth to produce the setup..

There's lots of threads on here about what setups we all use. Look up what Scott, Charles (ACM), or myself..Theres a ton of info that would take forever to re-type.

Thanks,

I was really suprised how well my 20g was on a shout course, the slower spool allowed me to get in the gass sooner in the corner with out smoking the inside wheel on exit. Looking into LSD.

If you think autocross is fun, try a roadcourse. 1 minute of driving versus 30 minutes of driving. 2nd gear turns versus 3rd and 4th gear turns. I can't wait to go again. Now get back out there get some seat time and show them what a DSM can do.

haha wow, month old thread, gotta start paying attention i guess

Had my first run(s) this weekend. Wow. :thumb:

Posted a video up in my recent build log.
