does anyone know how and if an indash dvd player can play while driving? is it something with the wiring that doesnt allow you or are people just telling me you "can't" play them while driving because of cops and stuff

They have an "emergency brake" wire. Pretty much you cant use them unless the ebrake is up. Any good audio shop knows how to and probably does bypass this. I believe its a simple +12v.

whats the difference between that and say something that displays graphics while the music plays

about the legaliy of having tv screens on while driving down the road is they can be on but it can not be in the view of the driver. Such as I have tv screens for the sunvisors and my passanger can watch their tv while i am driving or if you had a flip down from the roof it would be legal if it was turned away from the driver. I know this because my dad is a cop for upstate pennslyvania. Of course laws very from state to state but most of them are the same.

well it depends on what model dvd player you get. i have a clarion VRX-935VD and it has an "ebrake wire" but you just ground it with the regular ground cause thats all that happens when you pull the ebrake is it grounds itself. alpines you can use a pac-7 off ebay that does it or install a set of switches in some fashion

Ah, now isn't that a good question. Or, the difference between a DVD player and a moving-map GPS?
The difference is that lawmakers are dicks. Cops don't care, they just want to get through the shift and have enough pages missing from the pinch book to keep the sergeant off their ass for the day. DVD players show up like a firefly in a coal mine from two miles away, and are easy, virtually-unchallengable citation.
It's the dog-licking-its-balls method of regulation and revenue gathering.

All states have regulations prohibiting being distracted while driving, or driver inattention. But those legislators just love to make up more layers.

I would suggest removing that picture.

If you have a dvd player or what not playing in your car and its anywhere near where you the drive may see it, cops will give you trouble for it.

i ride around with my setup all the time.....if a cop pulls you over just hit the close button and the screen folds down and slides away

why not enjoy life just because of theive's? i have a very nice alarm on my vehicle as well as motio lights on my garage and keep a 2 fully loaded 9mm's in my house (one stays at home the other is my CCW) not very much crime rate in my area anyway. and if its stolen then i will just replace it

Most screens you will run ground to the "e-brake" wire and they will be on all the time.

On Alpine screens you have to install 2 switches. The first a momentary switch, the second a toggle switch that will be flipped while the momentary is being depressed. Think of it as haveing the car in park and haveing to depress your brakes, then pulling up the e-brake.

hope that didn't totally confuse anyone.

well wouldnt the screen be too low for a cop to see it to begin with? unless theyre in an SUV patrol vehicle theyll be able to spot you. so i dont think there's danger of getting pulled over for having your dvd player on while driving, but i wouldnt recommend it since it could distract you and might cause you to crash, and nobody wants to crash their beatiful dsm. thats the way i see it. :rocks:

i work at best buy so i have pretty good experience with these kinda things. usually it is an ebrake wire. the easy way around it is ground it to the chassis, its that simple. however, on new flip outs, such as the new pioneer, they have built in gyro's that won't alllow it no matter what you do. you're best bet is to go with an older model. i have one and love it. i play super nintendo, nintendo 64, i watch tv, and a little porn or racing movies from time to time LOL, its always a thrill seeing a old lady in disgust next to me :thumb:

not at all, here's the whole story with ALPINE's:

foot brake on (& hold)
parking brake on
parking brake off
parking brake on
foot brake off

or two switches, one to imitate each brake (foot and parking)

Panasonic, Clarion, and even Pioneer & Kenwood i think are simply a ground wire to imitate parking brake being on. But Alpine has to do it weird. however, Periphial makes a piece that simulates this action every time to turn the key on to save you the trouble.
