im not sure which tial bov spring i need ????

i jsut bought a tial bov from a kid on the classifieds, things perfect but idk much about these things, and i opened it up , the spring is huuge, now how do i know which one i need, im runnin 21 pounds on a 20g turbo,660 injectors,greddy front mount,jdm 6 bolt, its kinda fluttering rite now the bov
 
I am going to say tial is wrong. You should only run a 7lb spring. The idea is to let the air out as easy and fast as possible. With the 9lb and 11lb springs, little turbos don't have the nuts to open the valve. Use a 7lb spring, your turbo and throttle body will thank you.

How about with a PT6776 @ 30-35psi?
Reading Tials site it looks like I should use the 7lb spring because I am only seeing 8-10 in/hg at idle (BC 280's on a 2.0)
 
We run a SCM6776 with a 7lb, SCM6176RE with a 7lb, GT4094 with a cut 7lb, GT4202 with two cut 7lbs(twin bovs). YOu just want to release it as fast and safely as you can. No need for a 9lb or 11lb. Try running a small turbo(16g) with an 11lb. You will hate your car and it will hate you. It might not even release. Vacuum schmacuum. It will hold no matter what as long as your two gaskets are in good shape.

The bov is run to the intake manifold, thus when the manifold sees vacuum it pulls the air out of the bov line and helps open the valve. The point of the proper spring it so make sure the spring pressure isn't more than what your motor can pull open. The boost doesn't do all of the work here. :thumb:
 
I know how it works. Others may not. Thanks for the info. But, go drive a small turbo car with a 7lb spring and and 11lb spring. Then tell me which is right. Just experience talking here. I know the physics and instructions say one thing, but the cars do not agree.

On the subject of Tial BOV springs, here's my issue:

My car does not like part boost at all on the road course. I go into a turn trying to give it part throttle and part boost, the BOV starts releasing air on and off and the car shudders the whole time. I end up having to let off the gas.

I don't know what spring I have in there as I don't remember choosing it when I bought it a few years ago. But it feels as if I have the wrong spring in there. Will the lighter spring fix this and make it smoother? Or is this a symptom of a spring that is too light? I'll have to check my vacuum reading.
 
You have the same problem Chris. Too tough of a spring. If you didn't specify it probably is the 9lb. A lot of dsmer's go with the 11lb for whatever reason. If you still have the orignal box or the reciept that will tell you. Maybe you could also call the vendor you bought it from. They might be able to look at the invoice.

If you did not specifie chances are it came with a 10psi spring..thats what they come with from the factory.
