yeah, you really have no detailed enough information for symptoms, try a compressions test on each cylinder or check your timing, if it's squealing at start up, could just be that it's too cold and the belt is rubbing the pullies. It should be laggy if you spun a rod, may even well be tapping.

get a long pry bar and while engine is making noise touch it to random spots on your engine (head and block) and put the handle up to your ear, but you have to get your ear to seal around the handle or you cant here anything, if you do this correctly when you get close to the cause of the noise it will stick out like a transformer in a wheres waldo. If you dont have a long pry bar you can also use a big screwdriver but this limits you to only checking the top end of the motor. but you have to be sure to get your ear to seal around it. A ticking in the top end usually is a bad lifter and using this technique you should be able to pin point exactly which one it is. A knock in the bottom end usually bad rod or main bearing. I used this technique on a friends car after they replaced all the lifters and tick was still happening, within 5 minutes i pin pointed it to the EGR, took a closer look and the block off plate was bent and ticking like a snapple bottle cap does. Try this out too and let us know what you find.

if the noise is around 2.5k
and it sounds like a knocking noise, its prob a bearing going bad..
if you don't have the experiance to check this out yourself, take it to a mechanic, they will know what the noise is in matter of seconds.
