IHI turbos on dsms

i have heard of the IHI 16g killer and have researched it a lot. too expensive new and very hard to find used. yeah yeah a lot of you will say that its crap, but if you dont do the right modifications for example lowering oil pressure and filtering the oil, of course its gonna die.

was wondering what other IHI turbos would fit a 1g dsm. i've heard of the
IHI VF39(BB) which is a stock WRX STI turbo but thats about it. i would really like one of these ball bearing turbos sometime in the near future. which ones would be a good choice? what kind of modifications would have to be made to make the turbo work? how much would this go for, not including the price of the turbo?

btw my goals are to reach 280-300whp and keep it a reliable daily driver...

well the 16g you could get used for 250-350 and easily get that much horsepower so i dont really see the point in you wanting that turbo. Its alot easier to find a 16g also I would imagaine.

An E316g will get you to 300 no trouble and is great for a daily driver.

I'm sure the IHI turbos are fine, but the amount of stuff needed to make it work (manifold flanged to fit the turbine inlet, O2 housing & downpipe flanged to fit the turbine outlet, etc.) makes it not much of an appealing choice for a bolt on. If you're going to do all of that fabrication, I think you're better off with a Garrett GT3071R. It uses a ball bearing setup, is water cooled, and is much more widely available from more vendors than an IHI turbo.
