I have a 95 gsx awd turbo i just wanna no if my timing is off what could it cause.. I heard it would blow the head if the timing is off because of the type of motor the gsx has.... Just wanna no if u guys could help me out,,,,

K WELL HOPE THIS HELPS ... THE DSM MOTOR YOU HAVE WHICH IS 4G63T ITS WHAT THEY CALL A ZERO CLEAREANCE MOTOR MEANING THERES NO ROOM FOR TIMING ERROR SO WHEN TIMING IS OFF VALVES AND PISTONS ARE GONNA HIT EACH OTHER CAUSING FOR VALVES TO BEND ON A MODERATE LEVEL OR EVEN DAMAGE THE BLOCK :nono:

the pistons will smash your valves and destroy your head and many other things could go wrong leading to a full engine rebuild.

No need for the use of CAPS, RNR motors. We're all civil here. :D

Willdinguis, please remember to use proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar in your posts. If the timing is off, at best your engine will run like crap. At worst, it will destroy both the head and the pistons, and should the pistons or valves break, it may end up trashing the entire block and head. This is why the timing belt change interval is so important, and why it's so important to use quality parts when doing a timing belt change, in addition to changing the balance shaft belt (if applicable) to prevent an old balance shaft belt from snapping and tangling a brand new timing belt.

thanks guys. im sorry if i misspelled any thing i was write on my iphone when i type this up.. but how would i be able to tell if my piston are bad.. i just had the block rebuild within the last couple of weeks.. but the person that timed it did it wrong so im sure i need a new head after i just rebuild that too.. just wondering how i would be able to tell if i should take my block out.. or if i can check my use a tool or by looking........

Well, whe you pull the head off you will be able to see the tops of the pistons and you can just look and tell if they are damaged.

all right... im going to pull it off tomorrow hopefully its not bad.. thanksssss guysssss ill let u guys no how it goes

The easiest thing I could think of is re-aligning the timing, then doing a compression test on each cylinder. If a cylinder gives you low compression, then you will likely need a head job due to bent valves. You can take a good look at the pistons to see if there's any damage as soon as you remove the head.

...91gs..... u nail it because my compression in one is ok and two is a lil low and 3 and 4 there nothing at all it will fire up after a couple trys the compression always been a issuse with my build and it sucks but hopefully ill have a pro time this time there not alot of dsm guys out in mass which sucks.. i could use a hand..

Yeah, I know what you mean. My job keeps me away from home so I still feel new to this part of Texas. I don't see alot of dsm here either so when I do, I'm surprised.

Like iugrad92turbo, my timing has jumped a few times and my pistons don't look bad at all..little nicks (strength of the mighty 4g63) . The important thing is that you don't run it if you know the timing is off. Usually will end in disaster.

yea have not been able to run it i wish i could LOL its been a year and half in the works and out here in mass there no dsm shop really that no about our cars which sucks im going to take the head off today and see what they say ### i just got every thing done like withthin the last 2 to 3 month with the head and block rebuilt just the timing messed it all up...

Jump on NewEngDSM.org :: Index and sign up there. There are a TON of very smart and helpful guys on that site. Also, I've had a car that was 3 teeth off on the timing. It ran horrible but I reset the timing and now the car has 155-160psi across the board. So, make sure you redo the timing correctly, THEN do a compression test. Do all that before you pull the head possibly saving you some time.
