if the timeing belt breaks while drving does it destory the pistons and valves? i honestly hope it doesnt because if it does ill be heart broken because i dont have the cash to rebuild an engine atm... fml please let this car just need a timeing belt replacement....

well its not that the belt broke its the fact the cranks slipt and wore down the belt to nothing .

THink of it this way. Ok so you figure that the valves open and close 10x faster than a blink of an eye and the piston just misses em every time right. (Exhaust and intake stroke). Well When you jump timing the valves are either openiong a millisecond sooner or a milli second later. Which means the piston is going to hit it causing it to bend the valve.

99% of the time you will bend valves, maybe intake, maybe exhaust, maybe all. You will probably also crack some valve guides and/or rocker arms. The pistons are usually ok as long as you don't keep cranking the motor and continually slam the valves into them; however, the only way to be sure is to pull the head and inspect the top of the pistons.
Pull your valve cover and see if the rocker arms are laying in the tray, if they are, your valves are bent. You will have to pull the head anyway to replace it so at that time you can inspect the tops of the pistons. Good luck.

im pulling the engine 2 mrw lets pray its just a belt... if i have to rebuild i cant afford it atm but my body is in amazing condition its a 98 GST red with black leather inside you guys think i might be able to get 1000 for a blown motor 98 gst then?

What would you do with 1k??? Buy an old honda or a beater??? Just look into a used head from Mitsu graveyard or ebay or local wrecking/towing yards. You might get lucky. As for the pistons, you'll know by looking at them when you pull the head. If you are rebuilding the head you may as well be safe if you dont know for sure the tensioner, pullies etc were all OEM mitsu and not junk. If not then you're looking at $350 for a tbelt kit w/ bsek, $600 if you also need the oil pump and front case.

Something like this happened to me a few years ago. the Belt didnt snap, just got too loose or something it wouldn't spin anymore. i was on the interstate doing about 140 KPH and then engine just decided to die. So i pulled over and waited for a towtruck. the shoppe they brought me to without really looking at it, just listening to it... they said the motor was blown and ive probably blown a head gasket and pistons and ect. So i waited for my dad to come with his toter and found out it was just the belt. the car still had power, you could hear the alternator i think it was? Well, something clicked. So we took apart the timing peephole and saw it was the belt. Got a new belt and tore apart the timing and put in new PCi timing belt kit and started her right up. Purred like a champ. No bent valves or anything.

Brought her to a satan shoppe few months later and found out i had a oil leak and thats what caused the problem and they put in a new oil seal or something and ive been fine for 2 years now with great oil pressure.

9 times out of 10 you will just need a valve job, head gasket, balance , t belt and tensioner, no need to pull the engine.

isnt the 4g63t an Interference Engine?? so if your timing belt brakes you are F-ed you are ganna be paying more then what you could of if you just replace it

First slow down, take a deep breath and rear what people are saying. You don't need to pull the motor to check the top of the pistons just pull the head off. You do know what the head is right? And who said you have a blown motor?

yes the 4G63 is a valve bender...

but get it apart and see what your working with , this subject has been covered many times...
there are people willing to help and walk you thu what needs to be done, and will understand that you have a limited budjet to work with, but do not think this will be a 3 hour fix....
