Idling problem after fully warming up.

Tried looking for this everywhere. No luck. I have a problem with my 90 Laser RS Turbo. I have a light on in the gauge cluster with a picture of the radiator. Now, when I start it up from dead cold, the car will run excelent. However, if I turn it off and let it sit for a half hour or so, the car won't idle on it's own for 10-15 mins. It'll just die. I'm not sure if I have the coolent temp sensor hooked up right, which I'll be looking into tomorrow. I'm seeing if anyone has any ideas to throw my way that could maybe fix this issue?

Also, sometimes when I get on the gas hard the light goes off and the car will idle. I think it's some sort of loose wire somewhere, but i'd like some other opinions on what to look for.

First off check coolant level at both the engine and the overflow tank to make sure both are full. Then make sure all coolant temp sensors are working and hooked up properly. There is also a sensor at the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side that plugs into the same harness as the cooling fan on that side make sure that works and is hooked up.

If the coolant temp sensor that goes to the ECU is not working the ECU will think the engine is always cold and will keep the mixture too rich.

The "idiot in the white house" idiot light indicates low in coolant level. Also, did you remove your FPS (Fuel Pressure Solenoid)?

I don't believe so unless the previous owner removed it.

I'll be taking another look at it in a few days. Got a busy work schedule ahead of me.

i gonna hijack this thread , i have same problem as the poster has here. I am not running factory fans, so the plug on the radiator is not being used. Also my FPS is also not being used, not sure if it is still there or not but i am using a aeromotive afpr. How can i get around this pain in the arse. Thx Ken
