Hey Everyone...

I have a very modified '91 Talon Tsi AWD 5spd and I've been having a problem setting my timing and BISS. As soon as I ground out the timing plug with a jumper wire...I get idle surge. Normally...I do not have idle surge. Only when I ground out the timing plug.

It was suggested to me it could be the speed sensor but I checked and it is working. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

I've done a boost leak test on the car...no leaks. I've also eliminated all the vacuum lines except the FPR line, boost gauge line, and blow off valve line.

It doesn't make sense to me either. It's driving me crazy. It's opposite of how it should be...normally you have idle surge and can ground out the timing plug and diagnostic port to set the BISS. When I ground the timing plug I GET idle surge.

Anyone have any suggestions? This is driving me crazy! Again, the problem is that every time I ground the timing plug to set timing or the BISS (along w/ diagnostic port of course)...I GET idle surge. Normally...I don not have idle surge. Only when I ground the timing plug.

So far, I have checked that my vehicle speed sensor works (it does) and replaced the closed throttle switch with another one.

Are the coolant lines still hooked up to the TB?, And have you cleaned out your TB lately? Also check the butterfly for carbon buildup, And as a last resort you can always adjust your butterfly screw. But that would be at a very last resort. LoL last time I had mad Idle problems my intake manifold gasket was blown :notgood:

I don not have the coolant lines hooked up anymore. The throttlebody is a 63mm bored tb from throttlebodys.com. I've already checked for boost leaks, speed sensor, closed throttle switch. I have no ECU codes (per mmcd logger). I have tried to adjust the closed throttle screw. My tps is set properly (tried from 9.7 to 10.5). I ONLY get idle surge when I ground out the timing plug (can't set timing or idle). I also have an EVO 8 MAF and a Keydiver Stage 3 Eprom.

Cmon guys....any suggestions at all? When I ground the timing plug I GET idle surge. I've already checked for boost leaks, the speed sensor, closed throttle switch, TPS, etc....

Anyone?

Yes...I did. It wound up being a a faulty coolant temp sensor that was not completely bad but was giving a false reading to the ECU. This caused the car to continuosly run in warm up mode.
