I've been dealing with this problem for a very long time now and am finally fed up. I want to fix it and I'm hoping y'all can help me out!

I drive a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. The motor is a 91+ 6-bolt I had imported from Japan after my stock engine stripped the timing. I have zero performance modifications, however the following, from memory, is what I have altered:

Emissions removed/capped. Small honeycomb in air filter removed. Hardwired radiator fans since they stopped coming on automatically. A small hole in the air intake pipe is plugged where prevoiusly, from the old engine, a hose attached, but with this engine there is no hose from anything that goes there, so it is no corked with a rubber plug.

Now, my problem: After running for a while, if I stop my car and then start it up around a half hour to an hour later, it'll freak out. The RPM's will jump and fall rather wildly and it'll die. The only way to remedy this is to play with the accelerator pedal to keep a steady 2k RPM for around a minute. This will usually cure the idle surge and dieing.

I'm tired having to wait for a long time after my engine is already warmed up to drive anywhere, and I don't like revving my engine in neutral. Can anyone help me out here?

Many thanks!

It sounds like you have a bad tps or idle speed controller. Also, make sure the throttle cable is not slipping out of place when you hit the gas. One question, how good is the plug in your intake? If its not great you may want to take the throttle body off and clean it. Also, one other prob it could be is the ecu. Check the caps on it. This can also make the cars have minds of their own.

Hey, thank you.

I've had my ECU repaired once before so I'm hoping that isn't the problem.

The plug in the intake pipe is rather good but it's just a simple rubber cork, so I should take your advice on cleaning the throttle body.

I'll look around and see, thanks for your advice.
