After starting the car, it will idle for about 2 seconds and then a horrible rattling sound comes from the timing belt area. If you're standing in front of the car leaning over the motor, it sounds like it is coming from between the cam gears. I have physically checked the crank pulley, and it seems to be OK (it's not loose, and the rubber material looks to be in good shape). Is the only thing left the hyd. tensioner?
When I put my Tbelt on, I got the tensioner off of a motor that had 22k miles. It couldn't possibly be going bad, could it? The tensioner pulley is a brand new unit.
After turning the car off, I can push down on the Timing belt between the cam gears and it will go down about 1/8".
